I recently had a chance to work with SangeetSabha who organized this concert of two of India's greatest living master musicians, Ustad Shahid Parvez & Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. I greatly recommend it to anyone who loves Indian music...I used to listen to traditional Indian music more a few years ago, and recently rediscovered it through friends. This is the soul music of one of the greatest cultures of the planet... heart chakra opening sound and the true meaning of playing (like the gods)...one has to hear it live! Tomorrow (Thursday), they are playing together in NYC, below is all the info.

USTAD SHAHID PARVEZ & PANDIT ANINDO CHATTERJEE
SHAHID PARVEZ
Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is one of the finest sitar players alive today. His dazzling virtuosity and innovative genius have earned him a legacy as a giant of the sitar. Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan learned his craft from his father, Ustad Aziz Khan, and enjoys an impeccable pedigree. He is a seventh generation heir to the sitar's first family, the Etawah Gharana. Ustadji's global reputation as an awe inspiring performer is complemented by another rare gift- his ability to spread his music as a dedicated and loving guru. Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan sums up his mastery of this most intricate art form with a profoundly simple philosophy: "Music is my life".
"Shahid Parvez makes the notes sing, giving them the colours of a vocal performance." – Dr. Salman Ansari
"To play with Shahidbhai I have to think a lot. I have to be on my toes and concentrate constantly. Playing with him is never a casual affair. He plays very serious music".
– Ustad Zakir Hussain commenting about accompanying Shahid ji.

ANINDO CHATTERJEE

Pandit Anindo Chatterjee is a rare phenomenon in the art of tabla playing. Anindo Chatterjee is one of those rare few. His power and speed combined with total clarity and sweetness is unparalleled and speaks of years of backbreaking practice. The spontaneity and intuitiveness of both his accompaniment and his solo improvisations speak of the depth of his artistry and leave his audiences speechless. Pandit Anindo Chatterjee is one of the great musicians of our time.
"Pandit Anindo Chatterjee is one of India's greatest tabla maestros."- (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of India)
"For me it has been a great joy whenever I have performed with Anindo. I have always admired his tonal quality, virtuosity, and effortless playing of tabla". (Pt. Ravi Shankar)
In 75 years of my music life I have seen only two tabla players who have been able to maintain perfect clarity while playing at extreme high speed. One is the late Pt. Anokhilal Mishra, and the other is our Anindo. He is the pride of our country." (Pt. Kishan Maharaj)
