I've just had a chance to get more familiar with this J.Period x Nneka collaboration project that was recently released as a free download. It didn't take much for the German-Nigerian singer/MC to get me completely fall in love with her. Her voice is simultaneously raw and sweet, a quality that makes her so compelling and is one of the most authentic artists I've seen out there (she reminds me of Lauryn Hill in many ways). Most people I know whose opinion I respect have the same instant 'I love her' reaction. I've first seen her in one of the issues of CLAM Magazine a couple of years ago, and my blog partner Sarah was raving about her on our blog Wronglips. She is super inspiring, a voice of love straight from the heart of Africa. I definitely recommend her mixtape and I also suggest to support her by buying her album Concrete Jungle when it drops in a month. Nneka will be on tour in the US in February, 2010 in support of The Madness (Onye-Ala) & Concrete Jungle releases.The Madness (Onye Ala) is an introduction to Nneka’s new album coming out this February on Yo Mama/Decon/Epic, titled Concrete Jungle.
