Talking about space, I want to share one of my all-time favorite animes, Night on The Galactic Railroad (Ginga Tetsudo no Yoru / 銀河鉄道の夜) directed by Gisaburo Sugii, based on the enigmatic symbolism-filled cult story by Kenji Miyazawa. Somehow it happens that my favorite animations feature cats as the main characters (The Hungarian "Macskafogó" or Cat City is another one). In this mystical tale, the two cats set out on a galactic railroad ride on the Milky Way to the Southern Cross- an allegorical journey to the afterlife and a beautiful meditation on Kenji's view of self-sacrifice.
