ARTIST TO WATCH: OPOLOPO & AMALIA

Hailing from Sweden, OPOLOPO and AMALIA share not only the title for two of the illest album covers, but several collaborations and mutual inspirations amongst other. OPOLOPO's Voltage Controlled Feelings made me nostalgic taking me back to the days of Blade Runner. Featuring also L.A fam, Erik Rico on the vocals. AMALIA has shared the stage with Dr. Lonnie Smith, Maceo Parker, Jazzanova, Saul Williams, Cinematic Orchestra and many more. Her choice of ammunition, a unique voice with a powerful blow, has made her 'the secret weapon of numerous underground producers' in Europe and beyond. 

'Voltage Controlled Feelings' is the sonic testimony of more than two decades of serious electro, funk and boogie studies from Swedish synth commander Opolopo!

Blending epic Blade Runner soundscapes and Krautrock sequencer lines into cruising west coast beats and beyond, he proves that science fiction and funk are not only compatible, but have always belonged together. 'Voltage Controlled Feelings' is a newly discovered planet orbiting a distant star, that also pays homage to the synthesizers, drum machines and the artists who influenced Opolopo's music. Echoes of Prince, Herbie Hancock, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Isao Tomita can be heard throughout the album. Fellow electronauts include L.A. vocalist Erik Rico, known for his work with Tupac Shakur and David LaChapelle, UK acid jazz hit singer Farah, Toronto-based jazz vocalist Sacha Williamson and Stockholm-based oral transmorpher of sounds and words Amalia. Spotlight on for the long awaited debut album by Tokyo Dawn's first lady Amalia! 'Art Slave' is a colorful manifesto for the passion of art, the strength of heart and the need for sufficient funk in all stages of life.

Flying solo, Amalia bravely commands her own starship and pays homage to the strong women of soul who catalyzed her ingenuity such as Chaka Khan, Sheila E, Eartha Kitt and Betty Davis. Produced by her cohabitant, Swedish funk extraordinaire Opolopo, 'Art Slave' is sonically and musically influenced by late 80s/early 90s New Jack Swing and Boogie, continuing on from his epic concept album Voltage Controlled Feelings.
