Artwalks, new drawings, News update

Its been a jamm packed, super busy summer! and i suppose that only makes sense since winter was such a freeze in. the balance has certainly been restored and this past season of abundance has really done me some good. I feel i have been very productive especially with how fruitful my lil solo art show ended up. However we were saddened by some things: This time when we showed up to 20th and Alberta to set up like we always do, the entire grassy knoll/field area that usually ends up as a mini Rainbow gathering had a barbed wire fence around it! On the fence were nasty typed signs saying "Absolutely no art fair booths here!"....and then a block away a few entire sides of streets had the same signs posted. It seems that some of the property owners around the area are not so keen about sharing the neighborhood once and month with the art fair. Luckily i feel we have a strong amount of supporters. People understand how important it is to keep Last Thursday Art walk on Alberta going and going strong so i wouldn't be surprised to come next month and see that nasty barbed wire fence taken down. im crossing my fingers!<br />Despite all that bad weirdness we managed to do well, selling art prints, tie-dye and face paintings : )<br />....I even met a women who wants to curate a show with my artwork in spring! She is the art curator for a local PDX feminist bookstore called "In Other Words feminist bookstore"<br />(On the corner of N. Williams Ave. and N. <span style="BACKGROUND: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; CURSOR: pointer; -moz-background-clip: border; -moz-background-origin: padding; -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous" id="lw_1254156196_0" class="yshortcuts">Killingsworth</span> St.) check out the website: http://www.inotherwords.org/ I have yet to go into the bookstore but im going to make it this week i hope. The curator seems to want to do a show in April or May. very good and exciting news!<br /><br />I have some new drawings that i scanned in recently. So far we have the basic design ready to go and now we have to start collecting all the images of the artwork, sizing them and doing the html coding. The basic design of the site is all hand drawn and scanned in by me. I cant wait to go live with this website because i think its really looking wonderful already! I think this site will be an important tool for me. A good link to put on the back of my business cards! who knows, perhaps it will lead to more shows? Just seems like a good thing to have.<br /><br />This morning was super chilly- perhaps the first cold day in Autumn. i cant wait to watch the leaves turn color...watch everything glitter with frost once again. Halloween in coming up! Cant wait to carve some jack o' lanterns and...i still have to come up with my costume. I seem to end up the same thing each year: some faerie, gypsy, witch lady. the Manifestation of My solo art gallery show!

So it all truly materialized!<br />I took Thursday off from work and met Tiffany Ruth at her art gallery to begin the show set up process.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/3939572472/" title="calm before the storm by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="calm before the storm" height="335" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3429/3939572472_5c66a28b2c.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />We started out by lining up my art pieces along the wall to get an idea of how we were going to map the display. Tiffany Ruth was really the brains behind the display. She has an eye for color and presentation and so she worked her majick and came up with the order in which everything would be hung.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/3939590766/" title="hanging the art by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="hanging the art" height="335" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2633/3939590766_3b2b96f7a3.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />We started hanging my artwork from right to left in a staggered pattern.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/3938829697/" title="Hanging my paintings for the show by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Hanging my paintings for the show" height="335" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3435/3938829697_d66b43d527.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />Once we got everything up on the wall, then came the tricky part. Tiffany Ruth had a great idea to add some lace suspension. She had been inspired by the way the Victorians used to display their art by suspending them with lace and bow. So in this photo Tiffany Ruth is putting the first ribbon on the display. Thanks so much for all the support and love cuz thats what made this a great thing for me. I had a good turn out and sold 5 art pieces the first night! In a sense i am relived that the big opening is over with because I am ready to focus on doing some more creating! i am full and bursting at the seems with a wealth of heightened inspiration. I have 12 14"x14" box gallery framed blank canvas that i am itching to begin a new series on. If i can manage to work all those Tiffany and I will be doing another show come next summer! So, yes- its been a truly blessed experience and i feel so very fortunate to have had this amazing thing materialize in my life. WATER is life ::: healing vibrations

<div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">I was asked in a recent interview on <a href="http://www.readconvention.com">readconvention.com</a> to describe my art and I tried to explain my ideas about vibration as the underlying creating force behind things manifested in the material as well as in the metaphysical world. NEW WORK ::: Butch Diva x Lichiban collabo at CANVAS & CHAOS - ROCK THE BLOCK

I was collaborating with <a href="http://butchdiva.blogspot.com/">Butch Diva</a>'s founder Tiffany Rhodes on one of her smashing lime green jumpsuits...my definite favorite piece. I've never done live painting on live models, so this was a fun challenge (painting on spandex is a bitch and I felt really bad for the models who had to get wrapped in ceran wrap underneath their outfits because the material was letting the paint through).<br /><br />I tried to make my beautiful model look like a superheroine straight from the rainforest. Exhibiting artists at FRESHER! include SHIRO, Diana McClure, Kerri O’Connell, LICHIBAN, Krista Franklin, Kelly Denato, Niz, Paulina Quintana Jornet, and Cece Carpio, to name a few. Tiffany Ruth wants to hang them in between the larger pieces thinking it will create a good contrast. i really can hardly wait to see what everything will look like hung up and ready to go.<br />I'm also working on a handful of mini canvas pieces that i will display on mini easels around the gallery on the tables.<br />....last night I was daydreaming about the show and thought about how cool it would be to have someone there who would be painted by me from head to toe- walking around serving drinks and hangin out. Im not sure who i could find that would be willing to walk around in nothing but body paint for a few hours. but its fun to dream!<br /><br />In the meantime, Danny has been doing some more screen printing. KON, one-half of the legendary duo <a href="http://www.myspace.com/konandamir">Kon & Amir</a> (Kings of Digging, Off Track :: BBE) is my favorite disco Jockey and is hands-down one of the most brilliant musical talents out there, and I feel very lucky to have been exposed to his vast collection of rare disco, boogie, soul & funk records he had been collecting for decades...most of what I know about disco and boogie I learned from him (check my feature on him and Amir from last year<a href="http://lichiban.blogspot.com/2008/05/my-homies-rule-too-kon-amir.html"> here</a>). One of his genius is the ability to break down a song he is hearing to its basic rhythm structure, mood and energy level and then pull out of his memory a track that would match and flow seamlessly with the song...of course, most DJs do this with varying degrees of skills but he had actually mastered this with a vast mental library of music...his mixes have a type of flow that is very hard to master. The real test of this comes to light in his ability to move crowds on a level I only see the best of DJs can achieve. This Thursday some of New York's finest DJs will come together to raise money to support KON while he is recovering, showing how much respect he has in the game. I was getting ready to do a live art piece on one of Tiffany Rhodes, founder of Butch Diva's sexy catwoman suits for the Canvas and Chaos event in BK, when another friend of mine, stylist/fashionista <span style="font-weight: bold;">Vanessa Guzman</span> approached me with a similar idea. What's even greater about the project that it serves a positive cause.<br />Vanessa is working on putting together a fashion show for Second World's <span style="font-style: italic;">Sixth Annual New England Culture Fest</span> under Valerie Parker, a filmmaker, sustainability activist and executive director of <a href="http://www.second-world.com/sw/article.php?id=22">Second World</a>. Second World is a pro-fair trade <span class="smalltextbold">non-profit arts organization </span>dedicated to empower thousands to not only earn a living wage, but to also survive poverty, wars and natural disasters to ultimately contribute to a very important aspect often left out of the international development model: to preserve ancient cultures and fast fading indigenous ways. A few years ago, I used to be more involved with hands-on humanitarian work, and I've since tried to keep supporting such causes through my work as an exhibiting artist as well. This was a new kind of challenge, but perfectly in line with my direction these days...bringing the need to preserve indigenous cultures into the forefront. In order to regain humanity, the human mainframe must be overloaded with love emotion. The only hope is to disable the control frequency sent via radio waves keeping humanity in machine form.<br /><br />Diamond Studded Mothaship is a dance record, 1 part club music & 1 part future funk, with a few oddities added for good measure. The music on this album was recorded live with a dedicated system of 6 analog synthesizers, 3 drum machines, and a sequencer connected as one organism. An amazing organic feeling is achieved with this album, its cohesive sound & unique pop songs set up a platform for a wide variety of music lovers.
