Though known primarily for her photography/mixed media work, she is also a painter and fashion designer which filters into and cross-references her various projects. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Her lens reflects her "world view that centers on the past colliding with the present, as she aims to expose the emotional side of the city streets and pushes the final image to abstraction."  Recently, she ventured into applying her skills to film on a project with another homie, MeLo-X & director Alexis Casson...the end result, as you can see below, is an amazing piece of art, truly innovative. She has been a fellow artista, friend and inspiration for me, and I'm excited to start a collaboration with her this Fall.</span><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbtIP-rXTC99iHO3NuC5Lny-v0vnlDRtiOZ0I3yR2_SPfH6FC9OkZ7iXdw_eHKjn4VIOHww5LlDYZtLnQxCHIpBISF5e1k980axdRxnb829MJtTW3OZgfolRO1gDZivr1zptm8CWSRzHhm/s1600/199028_1813514229342_1584640950_1718376_1418013_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbtIP-rXTC99iHO3NuC5Lny-v0vnlDRtiOZ0I3yR2_SPfH6FC9OkZ7iXdw_eHKjn4VIOHww5LlDYZtLnQxCHIpBISF5e1k980axdRxnb829MJtTW3OZgfolRO1gDZivr1zptm8CWSRzHhm/s400/199028_1813514229342_1584640950_1718376_1418013_n.jpg" width="300" /></a>WHERE DO YOU CALL IT HOME? <span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 14px;">Brooklyn.</span><br /><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">WHAT DO YOU DO? Visionary. Designer. Visual Artist. Photo Architect. Renaissance Woman.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">TRUE BEAUTY IS… Genuine. Loud Silence. A state of mind.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">BEATS…Is the sound of life...</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">TRUE SEXY IS...Inner Beauty. Balance. Ease.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">MUSIC IS MY…Soundtrack. Stimulant. Soul.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">ART DOES NOT…Destroy. Define. Judge.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">MY NIGHTS ARE…Intimate. Inventive. Full of Light.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">THESE 3 TURN ME ON…Ambition. Individuality. Sensitive Strength.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">SELF-KNOWLEDGE …Is following your heart. Is being fearless. Is truth.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">ENOUGH OF …Self destruction. Assumptions. Negativity.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">MY CREATIVITY IS…Power. Pure Love. My Weapon.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">TRUE POWER IS…Being true to yourself. Making your dream your reality. Having faith when common sense tells you not to.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">LIFE CAN BE THE...Dream. Awakening. Reality.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">TO LOVE IS TO…Accept yourself & others without judgement or expectations. Be unified with everything around you. Believe.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSMP3CtfQypMdwfytVObsv5-CWne_p_yHaVMlwhMhh2B2_DuDwxKT6f0KByxzx55-bwJ7lG2Zkoi2a52upYr0JqNB5WUve31xBwbqYYN_xIK4mFov3ytrvyn5pshCHofvXIfT8AImC1QUW/s1600/5769_1130938965387_1584640950_304159_685126_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSMP3CtfQypMdwfytVObsv5-CWne_p_yHaVMlwhMhh2B2_DuDwxKT6f0KByxzx55-bwJ7lG2Zkoi2a52upYr0JqNB5WUve31xBwbqYYN_xIK4mFov3ytrvyn5pshCHofvXIfT8AImC1QUW/s640/5769_1130938965387_1584640950_304159_685126_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">I'VE GOT FLOW BECAUSE…I speak with my heart…I follow my intuition...I simply be…</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">NEW PROJECTS FOR 2011? I'm going full force and unifying all my passions in art, fashion & photography… I aim to fly on my own terms & create something beautiful in the process.</div><div style="line-height: 14px;"><br /></div><div style="line-height: 14px;">The next show coming up is love this town! I was also honored to be part of G40 Art Summit in Washington DC & my debut show on the west coast @ Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles, CA along with many great & influential artists. Currently, I have my first show with 8x10 Collective called "BIO VS. The making of "Mirrors In My Mind" was a pure labor of love & pure vision of my heart through music. This is my debut into the video world & it feels amazing to evolve my photography into motion. The whole process of capturing the video consisted of 1,200+ photos, 33 individual collages assembled before the actual edit & amazing graphic work of my "third eye", amazing videographer & editor, Alexis Casson. During the process of creating the video, I was inspired to create a new series called the Collidoscope Series. The new series is based on life, balance & evolution.<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/27271992?portrait=0&color=ffffff" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="560"></iframe></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://vimeo.com/27271992">Mirrors In My Mind: MeLo-X</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/alexiscasson">Alexis Casson</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>WHERE CAN WE REACH YOU?<br />Offline: If I'm not at work, I'm most likely flying around the streets of Brooklyn…<br />Online: <a href="http://www.gigibio.com/" rel="nofollow nofollow" style="color: #3b5998; cursor: pointer; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">www.gigibio.com</a><br /><br />SHOUTOUTS?<br />Much love and appreciation to God & the UNIVERSE for blessing me. I'm super excited about this album, this track had me going on a loop!  In case you are not familiar with Rucyl Mills & King Britt's duo project, check out <a href="http://lichiban.blogspot.com/2010/11/sound-is-vibration-interview-with-rucyl.html">the interview</a> I did with them a few months ago.<br /><br />Also, listen to Rucyl's solo project Uma Kanya that I meant to post this a while back. Uma Kanya, Sanskrit for “Virgin of Light”, was originally intended as a soundtrack for yoga practice and morphed into an ambient soundscape – at times meditative and serene, at times aggressively haunting. Fittingly named,Uma is also the material manifestation of energy, wife of Shiva, and an expression of the duality of light and dark within women. Great for heart meditation. SUN RA was not only a musical innovator but also a spiritual artist who was never afraid to push the boundaries of imagination. In what way did he influence your carrier and do you also have a spiritual component to your music? </b><br /><br /><b>King</b>: I grew up going to his house in Philly w/ my mom. I think being in that environment definitely helped me understand that an 'outer' power exists in the universe and thru our music it is channelled to the masses. I feel all music, no matter how good or bad, has a spiritual component connected to it. Music is the organization of frequencies/sounds, which come from spiritual intention.....<br /><b style="color: purple;">Rucyl:</b> I learned about Sun Ra when I happened upon his film "Space is the Place" in the early 90s and consequently started gathering all the information I could about him and his work. I read his biography then had a June Tyson obsession for a minute - I was impressed by her style and confidence in her own abilities to sing in her own personal style with no rules. Music for me is completely spiritual and and is the best way to get to know myself and other people intimately. Self-expression is the fastest way to self-knowledge.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe frameborder="0" height="413" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/5578970" width="551"></iframe><br /><a href="http://vimeo.com/5578970">Sun Ra:Lectric PreVue</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/saturnneversleep">Saturn Never Sleeps</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.<br /><div style="text-align: left;"><b>L: You two are the perfect team, your individual passion & talents compliment each other perfectly. Could you each give an intro about each other's expertise to someone who is not familiar with your work and include something that people wouldn't normally know or assume about each of you?</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>King:</b> I think Rucyl is an expert in many things. She not only is an amazing singer, producer and multimedia artist but I feel her strongest expertise is hook writing. It may not be your obvious pop hooks but once you hear them, you will find yourself humming them for days/months to come. That is a very difficult thing to do and still keep the lyrics interesting and not bubblegum.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b style="color: purple;">Rucyl:</b> King is so dedicated to music and so professional in his execution and studio manner, teaching me that while emotions are always important and valid, to never let them keep you from making music. As artists sometimes we get caught up in day to day challenges and I've learned from King that these challenges are adjectives in your life process, not the verbs, that can be used in your art rather than serve as obstacles. Besides the obvious fact that he's an incredible producer and dj, King is a living encyclopedia of the history of all genres of music and the Philadelphia sound, he's a gear head with a programmers sensibility, and also one of the most non-judgemental people I've known. His desire to always progress and take chances is what makes him the formidable artist he is. Oh - and he's a really good with visual media - directing and photography.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>L: You both had successful carriers as performing artists? In what way did your past work help or created a challenge taking a new direction in your musical growth? </b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>King:</b> My problem was more of a fear of taking the step into the experimental side. Rucyl definitely helped me push through the block that was holding me back. It was fear of losing my audience and fear of confusing my brand. I wish I had done it earlier...I think my past work is great but its very 'safe' to a certain extent ....now its time to be unsafe.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b style="color: purple;">Rucyl:</b> My past musical history was adventurous, to say the least, as I got involved in the music industry at a very young age. Like King said, it's time to be unsafe. Saturn Never Sleeps has given us an opportunity to express ourselves without conforming to any genre, especially with the uncertain state of patriarchal systems to confine our direction or creativity. It's good to be free.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><iframe frameborder="0" height="413" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/13958953" width="551"></iframe></div><a href="http://vimeo.com/13958953">SNS Live in Istanbul</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/saturnneversleep">Saturn Never Sleeps</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.<br /><b>L: One of the unique elements of your live shows is that there is no rehearsal or preconceived concept before you get on stage; everything is created in the moment as a spontaneous improvisation piece. In a way, your shows created a new model for electronic audio-visual experimentation by blurring the line between performance art, visual installation, and live musical production. What is your arsenal? What would you like people to take home from the shows?</b></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>King:</b> I think the main thing we want people to leave with is a sense of freedom. A feeling of uncertainty but simultaneously a feeling of excitement and wanting more. A feeling like maybe they can do it too. A feeling like they can take chances too. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><b style="color: purple;">Rucyl:</b> Our arsenals change constantly, but the APC is pretty much a constant along with Roland's Kaoss line. The circumstances were perfect that evening. We had just done the very first one in Philly right before. We were fresh faced kids with new toys in NYC! Great budget, great weather, great venue, great musicians, great visuals, we could do no wrong. It was a blessing and a curse. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The next gigs were all amazing as well but circumstances were never as perfect as that one. BUT they have all had their own magic. We have done Madrid, Berlin, Basel, Zurich, NYC, Philly, Istanbul and January Japan and Australia. Each gig has had its great crowd and moments. I still think everyone is a bit confused as to what to expect but they always leave excited for more.</div><div style="text-align: left;">We are working on a full length now, which we feel the tour for it will truly define exactly what SNS really is. It was such an out of body and mind experience. To happen during a Sun Ra exhibition and create what we did for true Ra heads was enough to cry. It was also the beginning of Rucyl and I working together, which was monumental !</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b style="color: purple;">Rucyl:</b><span style="color: purple;"> </span>ICA was incredible.. it really felt like we were immersed in the experience and Sun Ra was watching from Saturn. I also really loved our recent show at Moogfest. PRESS: I'm featured in 'The Artist Process' Documentary!

<div style="text-align: center;"><object height="340" width="560"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/s55ciWAI_CE?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/s55ciWAI_CE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object><br />Last summer, my friend and fellow artista, <b><a href="http://marthaliciaart.blogspot.com/">Marthalicia</a></b> had approached me to be part of her documentary, she called 'The Artist Process.' Her vision was to capture an insightful glimpse into the lives of four unique New York City visual artists. The original concept was to document only the artists' hands, feet and mouth...so I decided to wear my mask and transform into one of my avatars, <a href="http://lichiban.blogspot.com/search/label/Aio"><b>AIO.</b></a> The camera then followed us to the big finale at 5POINTZ,Queens NY, where we joined over 15 artists to paint a huge mural on the famed graffiti museum's wall. That was when I did the "LoveShipVibration Gate" mural (you can check it<a href="http://lichiban.blogspot.com/2009/09/new-work-loveship-vibration-gate.html"> here</a>).<p></p>The Artist Process" tells the story of <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.flickr.com/photos/daniellemastrion">Danielle Mastrion</a>, Mistah Metro, Marthalicia and myself going about our daily routine, while sharing our thoughts on performing, art, and life. I loved another artist fam, <a href="http://www.mistahmetro.com/">Mistah Metro</a>'s feature, whose been on my radar, but didn't have a chance to build with yet. I give thanks to the amazing Marthalicia who has been a beacon of light and inspiration for all of us pushing hard in New York...been a fan & supporter of her since I've known her. Her vision was able to manifest through joining forces with amazing mover-and-shaker, world-traveler, activist, performer <a href="http://www.feleciacruz.com/feleciacruz/feleciacruz.html">Cathleen Angelo aka Felecia Cruz</a> (Fighting for Futures), who was behind the camera and <a href="http://soundcloud.com/spillsbeast">Spills</a> who did the original soundtrack and edited the film. Also shout to the lovely <a href="http://www.photosbyvr.com/">Victoria Holt</a> for the documenting the process with her camera. Thank you!<p></p><p id="eow-description" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background- background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; font-size:12px;color:transparent;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:16px;"><img src="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/lichi5-VRphoto600.jpg" width="560px"" /><br /></span></p>Looking at the film made me nostalgic about my old place, one of my Brooklyn homes, ROOM 777...it was one of the most intense vortexes of my nomadic life and definitely one of the most creative spaces. Alas, my new home is different but equally powerful entryway to the world of imagination.</div>

Despite the scary economic realities (or perhaps because of it), artists are coming out with amazing work, truly next level stuff. No one can deny that there is a renaissance of all forms of art all across the globe. The generation of artists that I consider as peers and friends have been my biggest inspirations and source of support...we give a lot of support and love to each other, which frankly been part of the reason why I kept it going even when it was a real struggle to survive as a visual artist in the city...I live and breathe the 'spread love is the Brooklyn way' and it is what fuels my work. One of these sources of love and support has been my beautiful friend & fellow artista, Fly Lady Di, whom folks have known for her many talents- her badass dancing & live art skills, though she's been working on her acting as well. She moved back to her native Toronto and kept on building her emporium & inspiring others to do the same. I was super touched and honored to be mentioned along with my other close friends and peers Ibrahim Yaqut, Yang Chi, Livingroom Johnston, Pesu, Amanda Diva, Concep, Marthalicia, among others in her recent interview in YRB. She gave me a huge big-up that I have to live up to!! Wow, thank you, Diana-the love continues!! Check out her work <a href="http://www.flyladydi.com/">here</a>.<div><br /><div><div><div><b>"Lichiban is also a huge source of inspiration as an artist- I believe she will be one of the most influential artists of our generation."</b></div></div></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal; ">Brooklyn misses you, mama!</span></b></div>
