Today, while celebrating Martin Luther King's birthday and legacy, is perhaps the best time to share my (re)discovery of Thich Nhat Hanh, a living boddhisattva. A Vietnamese monk, poet, scholar, and peace activist, Thich Nath Hahn has been known for his life long efforts to generate world peace and reconciliation founded on the Buddhist teachings of interconnectedness of all beings. His approach has been to combine a variety of traditional & <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zen" style="-webkit-background-clip: initial; -webkit-background-origin: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-color: initial; background-image: none; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial; color: #0645ad; text-decoration: none;" title="Zen">Zen</a> teachings with methods from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theravada" style="-webkit-background-clip: initial; -webkit-background-origin: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-color: initial; background-image: none; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial; color: #0645ad; text-decoration: none;" title="Theravada">Theravada</a> Buddhism and insights from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahayana" style="-webkit-background-clip: initial; -webkit-background-origin: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-color: initial; background-image: none; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial; color: #0645ad; text-decoration: none;" title="Mahayana">Mahayana</a> Buddhism. In the 60s, he traveled to the U.S. and was giving lectures, urging the U.S. government to withdraw from Vietnam. He had meetings with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King,_Jr." style="-webkit-background-clip: initial; -webkit-background-origin: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-color: initial; background-image: none; background-repeat: initial; color: #0645ad; text-decoration: none;" title="Martin Luther King, Jr.">Martin Luther King, Jr.</a>, inspiring him to publicly oppose the Vietnam War; King nominated Hanh for the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Peace_Prize" style="-webkit-background-clip: initial; -webkit-background-origin: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-color: initial; background-image: none; background-repeat: initial; color: #0645ad; text-decoration: none;" title="Nobel Peace Prize">Nobel Peace Prize</a> in January 1967.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">In a recent trip to San Francisco, in the guest room I was staying in, I found a book entitled<i> The Sun My Heart </i>which turned out to be written by Thich Nath Hahn. As a seeker, I believe that when one fully accepts one's life mission, the universe will open up doors to guide one's search (and challenges as well). This book was one of those life's gifts.   </div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq6dWczeC1tECqKyD2dsErHz8b_p_7J2SxEnpo72j88cS_j4bDX7WFbKhu4oqdESpYj-rXR31GSxui8WGMUnbdv9q5chAqRki8Exo5_t7gMWg_r4VUfpBCg5l-MMDvwHtMi54mvtr11QA/s1600/SunMyHeart-ThichNathHanh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq6dWczeC1tECqKyD2dsErHz8b_p_7J2SxEnpo72j88cS_j4bDX7WFbKhu4oqdESpYj-rXR31GSxui8WGMUnbdv9q5chAqRki8Exo5_t7gMWg_r4VUfpBCg5l-MMDvwHtMi54mvtr11QA/s1600/SunMyHeart-ThichNathHanh.jpg" /></a></div><i><b>THE LETTER OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR TO NOMINATE THICH NATH HAN FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE</b></i></div><div style="color: #666666;">1967 25, January</div><div style="color: #666666;">The Nobel Institute</div><div style="color: #666666;">Drammesnsveien 19</div><div style="color: #666666;">Oslo, NORWAY </div><div style="color: #666666;"><br /></div><div style="color: #666666;">Gentlemen: </div><div style="color: #666666;">As the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate of 1964, I now have the pleasure of proposing to you the name of Thich Nhat Hanh for that award in 1967. I do not personally know of anyone more worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize than this gentle Buddhist monk from Vietnam.</div><div style="color: #666666;"><br /></div><div style="color: #666666;">This would be a notably auspicious year for you to bestow your Prize on the Venerable Nhat Hanh. Here is an apostle of peace and non-violence, cruelly separated from his own people while they are oppressed by a vicious war which has grown to threaten the sanity and security of the entire world. </div><div style="color: #666666;">Because no honor is more respected than the Nobel Peace Prize, conferring the Prize on Nhat Hanh would itself be a most generous act of peace. It would remind all nations that men of good will stand ready to lead warring elements out of an abyss of hatred and destruction. It would re-awaken men to the teaching of beauty and love found in peace. It would help to revive hopes for a new order of justice and harmony.</div><div style="color: #666666;"><br /></div><div style="color: #666666;">I know Thich Nhat Hanh, and am privileged to call him my friend. Let me share with you some things I know about him. You will find in this single human being an awesome range of abilities and interests. </div><div style="color: #666666;">He is a holy man, for he is humble and devout. He is a scholar of immense intellectual capacity. The author of ten published volumes, he is also a poet of superb clarity and human compassion. His academic discipline is the Philosophy of Religion, of which he is Professor at Van Hanh, the Buddhist University he helped found in Saigon. He directs the Institute for Social Studies at this University. This amazing man also is editor of Thien My, an influential Buddhist weekly publication. And he is Director of Youth for Social Service, a Vietnamese institution which trains young people for the peaceable rehabilitation of their country.</div><div style="color: #666666;">  </div><div style="color: #666666;">Thich Nhat Hanh today is virtually homeless and stateless. If he were to return to Vietnam, which he passionately wishes to do, his life would be in great peril. He is the victim of a particularly brutal exile because he proposes to carry his advocacy of peace to his own people. What a tragic commentary this is on the existing situation in Vietnam and those who perpetuate it. <br /><br /></div><div style="color: #666666;">The history of Vietnam is filled with chapters of exploitation by outside powers and corrupted men of wealth, until even now the Vietnamese are harshly ruled, ill-fed, poorly housed, and burdened by all the hardships and terrors of modern warfare. <br /><br /></div><div style="color: #666666;"><b>Thich Nhat Hanh offers a way out of this nightmare, a solution acceptable to rational leaders. He has traveled the world, counseling statesmen, religious leaders, scholars and writers, and enlisting their support. His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism, to </b><b>world brotherhood</b><b>, to humanity. </b><br /><br /></div><div style="color: #666666;">I respectfully recommend to you that you invest his cause with the acknowledged grandeur of the Nobel Peace Prize of 1967. Thich Nhat Hanh would bear this honor with grace and humility. </div><div style="color: #666666;">Sincerely, </div><div style="color: #666666;">Martin Luther King, Jr.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V6VycjCq6sE?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V6VycjCq6sE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRZZJYTrGRdUmlObpfU32M-K5iKo1w6AS8NwCZtonrQgiSIuSkiTJmS-FvSBrJCpDW3x822UZfZ1kVU3F8AksElUFW-BH-1KYpR5WtGxxuc5hQz98vbeDLjanhtPBgguBU9wVri521txE/s1600/ThichnatHan-SunMyHeart-lichiban.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRZZJYTrGRdUmlObpfU32M-K5iKo1w6AS8NwCZtonrQgiSIuSkiTJmS-FvSBrJCpDW3x822UZfZ1kVU3F8AksElUFW-BH-1KYpR5WtGxxuc5hQz98vbeDLjanhtPBgguBU9wVri521txE/s1600/ThichnatHan-SunMyHeart-lichiban.jpg" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRN1fm8IHAZe8CZoki5O4wFgw0FlXIwqH-iggRSu7q2iLR4fxF9Bu81jij5hG13AbJSgeWKWKRJMj6j6icv1IcNrmg4wcw-r-vpBSe5Epj12VArEhhJdGUpS7w1-cXNSRtzZuxdk2e81w/s1600/ThichNatHan-SunMyHeart2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRN1fm8IHAZe8CZoki5O4wFgw0FlXIwqH-iggRSu7q2iLR4fxF9Bu81jij5hG13AbJSgeWKWKRJMj6j6icv1IcNrmg4wcw-r-vpBSe5Epj12VArEhhJdGUpS7w1-cXNSRtzZuxdk2e81w/s1600/ThichNatHan-SunMyHeart2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_XPCGsZJ2IxtJmT34ZkjFm9sr3vKeVuhrutPLivXn8bAqDWsV2UP76J3tHytIDm1NJFjDd1_SARNDUs36OU11DL5OhQQdyLC81-wp6fqNjC_NF0RyxbCsFcD4QdZusWZbSmnT6HGTgnU/s1600/ThichNatHan-SunMyHeart3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_XPCGsZJ2IxtJmT34ZkjFm9sr3vKeVuhrutPLivXn8bAqDWsV2UP76J3tHytIDm1NJFjDd1_SARNDUs36OU11DL5OhQQdyLC81-wp6fqNjC_NF0RyxbCsFcD4QdZusWZbSmnT6HGTgnU/s1600/ThichNatHan-SunMyHeart3.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: monospace, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><object height="437" width="550"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mG3PEoJpYBs?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mG3PEoJpYBs?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="550" height="437"></embed></object></span></div> I recommend <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Heart-Thich-Nhat-Hanh/dp/0938077120">to find a copy of </a><i>The Sun My Heart</i>, or any other works of Thich Nath Hahn. BODDHI loves: QUAN LUV & MEGA artists/ninjas

<div style="text-align: center;">The Royal Underground, galaxyrider fam QUAN & MEGA came through to work on a mural collabo we are working on for a BK high school. Two of my favorite artists & long-time collaborators from back from my Samurai show, they are two of the main driving force behind the NY-based artist collective (and also a street-wear label) A,L.I.E.N and they are also doing their thing as independent artists. I haven't seen them in over a year, but doing art always brings us together, which is the best thing about doing these shows....I realize I do my shows like my musician friends do their album, getting their favorite artist friends on board and make something together. These guys are always two steps ahead of the game. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://visions18.com/">QUAN LUV </a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/QUANluv-Boddhiloves-Lichiban.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://tombkv5.tumblr.com/">MEGA</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/QuanLuv-Lichiabn-Mega-collabo.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I saw Mega a few months ago,and he told me the day after that he had a dream about a creature that he recognized when he saw BODDHI (that is before he manifested).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/mega-quanluv-lichiban-boddhi.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jtxz-WJvz8k?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jtxz-WJvz8k?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div><div style="text-align: center;">Check out the finished piece at GALAKTIKAT at the <a href="http://spaceageherbalist.org/">Lotus Gallery</a> this Saturday, Aug 21st 7pm-till am.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Also, stay tuned for future shows where you can purchase prints from us.</div>

Combining his disarming persona with his art fueled by a search for truth, IBRAHIM has been shooting through the world's stage with the power of a supernova. I got to know him through being on the same hustle on the New York art scene; our first real encounter was actually through a live art collaboration we did together a couple of years ago (see below), after which we had a long discussion about our shared interest in alchemy, buddhism and our spiritual/creative journey...one of the blessings of being an artist is that your friends are some of the most amazing creators of our time. Ibi is no joke, he is definitely one of the Brooklyn artist comrades who are keeping the flame alive and who has given me inspiration to keep on pushing forward.</div><a href="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/ibrahimyaqut-lichiban-blog1.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/ibrahimyaqut-lichiban-blog1.jpg" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 398px; height: 538px; " /></a><div><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">From his bio</span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> "Many know Ibrahim as a high fashion model strutting the runway shows in Milan, or appearing in TV commercials, campaigns, magazine editorials or music videos throughout his ten year career and even starring in a lead principle role in the Disney Channel movie "Life Is Ruff". Up until last year did anyone know Ibrahim as an amazing artist, whose live painting at various concerts and events has created a buzz from the streets of NY all the way to Japan! The Philadelphian native is now the star of new reality series "Model City" airing on Centric & BET networks, where he manages his career in both the fashion and artworlds. A graduate of Pratt Institute with a BA in Illustration, Ibrahim is a self-proclaimed pioneer of re-education making it his mantra to speak his mind through the paintbrush....for now. His work displays versatility and potential unbound, exploring volumes of color, geometry, form and significance on a variety of fashionable materials and mediums aimed to make more than just a fashion statement. "I couldn't be one dimensional if I tried. I'm an artist to the core and desire nothing more than to express myself through any given medium just for the challenge. I have no intentions of staying within my lane. Actually, my biggest challenge is merging careers between the fashion and art worlds--seeing as how there's invisible lines. Ibrahim Baaith is my government, it's the model, the actor, the personality. Ibrahim Yaqut is the untamed artist, eager to create, explore and express. It's the nerdy part of me that just wants to enlighten and inspire my audience and the former being my outgoing persona (ego). Hence Yaqut vs Baaith in effect!"<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#009900;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">IBRAHIM YAQUT</span></b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/ibrahimyaqut-lichiban-blog1.jpg"></a><b><img alt="" border="0" src="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/ibrahimyaqut-lichiban-blog2.jpg" style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px;" />WHERE DO YOU CALL IT HOME?</b> BROOKLYN USA<br /><b>WHAT DO YOU DO</b>? IBRAHIM YAQUT x LICHIBAN collab at the CREATIVE HEIGHTS launch party (about 4x8 feet) from back in September 2008. This was totally unplanned, kind of a spur-of-the-moment collabo with him. Ibi used to be my downstairs neighbor, and this collabo was what really introduced us to each other. I planned something else, so it was a real challenge, but I'm glad I jumped on it. Ibrahim's ability to to capture emotions in portraits live is incredible. He got it in with the amazing rendition of the cover of the 1978 cult-movie 'Rockers', while I was trying to bring to light my animal guide/spirit on the left...they are both messengers of the same vibration (we did this more than a year before the movie, Avatar).<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/licsi777/IbrahimYaqutLichibancollab.jpg" style="width: 600px" /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><object height="340" width="560"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IvLuuHhWDWc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IvLuuHhWDWc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="340" width="560"></embed></object><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"> 'THE HEALER" is going to be on display at my upcoming show<b> </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>GALAKTIKAT, The Return of The Feline Tribe</b> on August 21st, at the <a href="http://spaceageherbalist.org/">LOTUS Gallery</a>, where you can also meet the artist.</div><div style="text-align: center;">ALSO CHECK OUT more of his work on <a href="http://www.ibrahimyaqut.com/">www.ibrahimyaqut.com</a></div></div>
