But i did get a lot of exercise. The making of Perception Mandala screen print + more

Made it to Friday not without a few bumps along the way...but here we are. Another weekend is on its way. If only i could motivate myself to finish my <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4894961340/"><strong>Mermaid painting</strong></a>....she is almost done, i am not sure why i have had no interest to work on her what so ever. I guess i will just have to chain myself to my painting table till its done this weekend! We shall see...<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/"><strong>Danny</strong></a> just recently created a new silkscreen:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/4968878442/" title="Untitled by Lucid Optic Lab, on Flickr"><img alt="" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4109/4968878442_49db18015e.jpg" width="416" /></a><br />Blue Perception Mandala silkscreen<br />8.75" x 11"<br />hand printed by the artist onto green washed watercolor paper<br />-Just listed this print into our etsy shop for $25. check out the listing <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/56009151/blue-perception-mandala-silkscreen-print"><strong>here</strong></a>.<br /><br />This silkscreen was created using the drawing fluid/screen filler method of production instead of the photo emulsion process. Personally i much prefer this drawing fluid method and had used it in creating my first two silkscreen prints: "<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/36417453/goddess-in-all-of-us-screen-print"><strong>The Goddess in All of Us</strong></a>" and "<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/34317661/behold-opticle-eyellusions-silkscreen"><strong>Behold</strong></a>."<br /><br />What is super cool is we were able to fully document the creation process for the "Perception Mandala" drawing fluid silkscreen.<br />Check it out:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/4964758723/" title="making a screen by Lucid Optic Lab, on Flickr"><img alt="making a screen" height="954" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4144/4964758723_d0eeac09b4_b.jpg" width="445" /></a><br />The first 6 photos show the design being hand painted onto the screen using the blueish colored "drawing fluid."<br />The next 15 photos show the design fully painted on the screen and the process of spreading the "screen filler" which is reddish colored over the design and the entire screen.<br />The next 6 images show how the drawing looks with its coat of screen filler- also shows how the drawing fluid begins to crack as the screen filler dries.<br />The last three images show Danny rinsing the screen which ,as seen in the last photo, removed the blue drawing fluid to reveal empty screen where the design was drawn.<br />Thus, the "drawing fluid" resits the screen filler which then creations a workable silkscreen.<br />Interesting, no?<br /><br />And here is a print done on a cotton shirt:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4976741341/" title="Perception Mandala silkscreen shirt by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Perception Mandala silkscreen shirt" height="461" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4147/4976741341_ac672684da.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />This shirt is listed for sale in our etsy shop. Weekend Tidbits:finishing my Trinity Pixie painting and a look at Dayzee love creations

This weekend was blissfully uneventful- sometimes you need those in order to find a balance.<br /><br />Our only obligation for the weekend was on Saturday: to open up and watch our friend Tiffany's Gallery, <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>T.Ruth Artspace</strong></a>, since she is till recovering from illness. We made the best of the day by setting up a couple tables along the gallery front on the sidewalk and sold some of our creations. I love sidewalk sales.<br />I also managed to put the final touches on a acrylic painting i have been working on:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4803678096/" title="Fae- Work in Progress by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Fae- Work in Progress" height="335" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4803678096_93156c47fa.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />This is the Trinity Pixie- named after her strange balance of 3 eyes. I spent about 3 hours going over her in the gallery adding more highlight and shadow/correcting shape and so on ( in this photo she was still an hours worth or work away from being finished.) Today when i get home from work i hope to sign her and coat her in a protective gloss varnish then she will be all done. I will be displaying her along with some of my other paintings next month inside the Guerrilla Gallery, curated and run by Olin and the <a href="http://www.guerrilla-media.com/"><strong>Guerrilla Media artist collective</strong></a> based in Vancouver WA ( i love those folks!) Hand made Coloring book and Fortune cat drawing!

Alright...made it to Friday in one piece!<br />Its been an intense week between watching <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/">T.Ruth Artspace gallery</a>, creating my commissioned coloring book, working on my Fortune cat drawings and trying to finish editing the photos from my last body painting photo shoot.<br />But i managed!<br /><br />Check out the groovy coloring book i made:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4646987744/" title="I made a coloring book by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a coloring book" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4025/4646987744_5a398be96b.jpg" width="335" /></a><br />This was quite possibly one of the most interesting commissions yet. This was made for a dear blogger/etsy friend who wanted to give a "Chelsea rose art's coloring book" to her daughter for her 7th b-day.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4646985070/" title="I made a coloring book by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a coloring book" height="304" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4004/4646985070_76fe064839.jpg" width="450" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4646978594/" title="I made a coloring book by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="I made a coloring book" height="330" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4024/4646978594_0206a32395.jpg" width="450" /></a><br />Honestly i feel like i couldn't get a good picture of this creation- i don't think the photos do it justice. I made it with a mix of mediums: pen, ink, watercolor, watercolor paper, printer paper, decorative paper, ribbon, string, iridescent medium, yes paste and more.<br />The hardest part was figuring out how i was going to bind it all together. Initially i had wanted to use a sewing machine( which turned out a really bad idea since the machine i tried that with ended up having its timing screwed up) but i ended up just taking it over to OfficeMax where they spiral bound it for only $1! Now that i have made one I'm thinking about making more to put around in the local boutiques and inside my etsy shop...we shall see!<br /><br />Here is my Maneki Neko inspired drawing:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4646396351/" title="Fortune Cat by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Fortune Cat" height="717" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4032/4646396351_473f430ffe_o.jpg" width="330" /></a><br />original pen and ink drawing<br />by Chelsea Rose<br /><br />.....I have always really loved the cute <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maneki_neko">Japanese Fortune cat</a> statues that you see in shops sometimes so a week or so ago i was doodling and to my surprise a very rough beginning sketch of the Maneki Neko appeared out of the blue! I took that as a good sign seeing that this symbol is a good luck totem so i decided to work on the drawing a bit more. I am thinking about eventually turning the drawing into an acrylic painting as well. If my research was correct the kanji symbol i drew means "prosperity."<br /><br />Anyhow...thats what i have been up to!<br />So far i dont have any extravagant plans for the weekend. I will be watching T.Ruth artspace gallery for a few hours. I hope to finally finish the painting i have been neglecting...but mainly im looking forward to some quiet cozy time inside my new apartment. There has been little time for that lately and i feel i have yet to really relax/enjoy the new surroundings. But alas, its currently my means to pay bills and buy food. But still... when I get home I tend to wallow all too much. And now that its getting dark early I find my body trying to hibernate.<br />So the battle rages on: the temptation to lay my weary bones down and be a drone VS the need to be fruitful and true to self.<br />I think I am winning over the vile sloth tendencies and I am producing my art work. Its wonderful being partnered with another artist. Danny and I help each other with inspiration. But there are some really truly amazing outside influence that easily jump start our weary artist hands into frantic action. This outside influence is you! You, who ever you are who is reading this blog. You, who enjoy our work enough to support it by buying prints, tie-dye, paintings, screen prints from our little <a href="http://www.lucidopticlab.etsy.com/"><strong>etsy shop</strong></a>. I cant communicate how much the support means to us and perhaps to the world for that matter. In this day and age where so much is mass produced by mega corps. and sold cut throat cheap I feel people who are willing to support hand made art and craft with their hard earned dollars are in truth heroes and freedom fighters. Finished projects and new tie-dye in our shop!

So I finished my "Wind Spirit" painting over the weekend.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4087543017/" title="Waiting for the varnish to dry by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Waiting for the varnish to dry" height="500" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2545/4087543017_b1dbcfa543.jpg" width="413" /></a><br />This is just a quick snapshot that Danny took while Sushi-cat and I were waiting for the first layer of gloss varnish to dry. The flash from the camera really washed out all the colors in the painting, but you get the idea. Hopefully today we will have some nice high quality details pictures of the painting. Its a 14"x14" acrylic painting done on stretched canvas. I'm sellin this one for $150.00 so let me know if you are interested and we will work out the details.<br /><br />Otherwise, Danny also finished a major project of his:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/4086614865/" title="laughing buddha screen print poster by Lucid Optic Lab, on Flickr"><img alt="laughing buddha screen print poster" height="500" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2752/4086614865_b681df3f09.jpg" width="379" /></a><br />Laughing Buddha screen print poster 11"x14"<br />This is a completely hand made, hand printed 5 color silk screen print poster made by Danny.<br />Its extremely limited eddition. He only printed 11 on Bristol paper.<br />To create this Poster he had burned 5 different silk screens, each one a layer that makes up the image. During the summer we were so busy sellin our goods at all the local art fairs and farmers market we ended up neglecting our poor little etsy shop. But now that fall is here the rains have begun and we are trapped inside with not much else to do. My dear friend Randy Wonder Tooth bought me a huge box full of 14"x14" gallery box framed stretched canvas and my goal this winter is to do a new series with all of them.<br />Perhaps next i will paint my Harpy drawing. Im also considering doing some experimenting with these trippy face mandalas that i have been drawing just recently.
