Goddess Art Opening photos and recap

The Goddess in All of Us art gallery opening was both wonderful and crazy at the same time.

Firstly I painted a friend/model who was to help me serve guests drinks and munchies during the event( all event photography done by Lucid Optic Lab )

But i ended up running out of time to paint her fully since people started coming in the door super early.

Danny snapped the two shots above before the crowed got really big.
T.Ruth Artspace filled up super quick and was abuzz with activity. There were moments the cozy lil gallery were packed so full of people it was like being in a sardine can! I was soooooo surprised, excited and encouragement by the turn out.

On the ground floor of T.Ruth Artspace the main wall had my Goddess in All Of Us mounted photographs. On a desk we had piled the books for sale.
In the upper loft i hung a bunch of my new and old acrylic paintings:

I am very glad I had the idea to hang my paintings for this event. People seemed to really enjoy coming up stairs and seeing a different side to my creative endeavours.

During a lull in the event Danny was able to snap the following photos:

from left to right: Chelsea Marie(model), Me(Chelsea Rose artist), Ann(model), Amy(model)

from left to right: Tiffany Ruth( gallery owner), Chelsea Marie(model), Me(Chelsea Rose, artist)

Me kissing one of my models, Queen Bead.
It was really a wonderful thing that so many of my models from the Goddess In All Of Us project showed up. Some of them i had not seen or talked to since we did the initial body painting/photo session so it was fun playing catch up and meeting their family and friends!

Andrew Constentine ( local PDX artist) came out with his daughter to the show. Here they are sitting down and thumbing through the Goddess in All of Us book they bought. Later on in the evening i got the chance to paint her sweet face. Unfortunately i did not get a picture of that but it was fun!

I met some wonderful people during the show, made some new friends, had a blast and sold a bunch of the 4"x6" prints and my books!

After the opening was closed i did a quick photo shoot of the Chelsea Marie whom i painted that day.
here is one of the photos:

So i think we can safely say the show was a success!

Thanks so very much to all who came out to the Goddess in All of Us art opening. The support means so much. I also know I had a lot of people at the show in spirit who were sending love from afar. Thank you thank you. Love you all!

Now i do have some sad news. I just found out over the weekend that T.Ruth Artspace will be closing its doors and going out of business in 3 weeks time. Yes, my two month show has been cut down to 3 weeks and I am pretty melancholy about it but I am choosing to not dwell on the negative and instead focus on how wonderful the opening was! So if you were planning on going to check out the exhibit sometime within the 2 months the show was promised to be opened you may want to go have a look soon, like real real soon...before the show is gone entirely!

I have the books on sale in T.Ruth Artspace as well as in our etsy shop:

On sale for $50 here.

Please dont be shy to email me at chelsea@lucidopticlab.com with any questions or requests!

Thanks again for all the support and encouragement!

Much love always,
-Chelsea Rose

Goddess Live on Kboo Radio, Etsy and Art Opening News

We are just a day away from my Goddess in All of Us body art photography gallery opening and I am pleased to say everything is falling nicely into place.

I had a true blast yesterday morning... Danny, Tiffany Ruth and I were interviewed live on Kboo Oregon Community Radio "Art Focus" hosted by Eva Lake all about the up coming Goddess exhibit and more!

You can take a listen to the recording of our live radio interview here.

It was a thrilling to speak live on the radio. It featured me, Danny and Tiffany talking about the art opening coming this Thursday. We also got into some interesting discussions about "what is the goddess", "what is outsider art", talked about the collective conscience, talked about breakin down the negative stigmas associated to body/spirit connection that have been created in this modern world to keep us caged... lots more and all in 30 mins! haha
I am excited to see if doing this radio interview helped generate interest, i guess we will find out tomorrow!

I am also happy to announce I have released my Goddess In All Of Us art book on sale via our etsy shop:

Goddess In All Of Us
the Body Art Photography of Chelsea Rose Rippel

Physical art book description:
size: 8" x 10"
Soft cover, "perfect bound"
contains 54 pages of the Goddess In All of Us body painting/photography series that Chelsea Rose created.
Book also includes, artist statement and introduction as well as a poem written by Chelsea Rose.
Each book comes signed by the artist Chelsea Rose
This is my first ever self published book.
Only 50 copies of the book were printed for this "First Edition" so get them while you still can!

The book is $50 plus shipping. Click here to view or to purchase my art book.

Last nugget of news, I ran into a lovely woman who is a supporter and collector of my artwork. We got to talking and planned that I will paint her from head to hips for my art opening and she will cruise around the event and serve wine to the guests. So there will be a live, living example of my body art walking around during the show! I think this will add an interesting preformance art element to the opening while giving people a better idea of what went on behind the making of my body art photographs.

So have I enticed you yet? Are you coming to the art opening?
I do so hope to see you there. I will also be selling and signing my art books.
I look forward to meeting and sharing my art series with you!

Best wishes and much love,
-Chelsea Rose

Art Hanging for my Goddess in All of Us body art photography show

Wow! I fear it has been awhile since my last post. I have been pretty busy working out the details of the Goddess in All of Us body art photography gallery opening.
It seems like everything is falling into place now and the actual art opening is really just about a week away! whoaaa.....

On Tuesday we hung all the photos:

This picture was snapped during the final moments of hanging. Tiffany Ruth( my friend and owner of T.Ruth Artspace) and Danny were the masterminds behind the way the body of work was put up on the wall.

From left to right: Tiffany Ruth, me and Ann, who was the first model I painted and photographed for the series.

...So now you got a sneak peak of the show! I hope it peaked your curiosity :)

If you are in the area on Dec.16th I urge you to come and check out the opening:

At the opening i will also be offering up my first ever self published art book for sale which contains 50 photos from my Goddess in All of Us project. I will also have a box of 4"x6" single prints avilaible for purchase.

This weekend I am watching the gallery on Sunday while Tiffany is away so if you are around come on in and say hi. I will be hanging a bunch of my new acrylic paintings in the upper loft of the gallery. The plan is to have the paintings avilaible for view and purchase for the night of the opening...so there will be plenty to take a gander at!

Also, the same night of my opening just a block down the steet Tiffany has organized a "Pop Up Art show" which will be featuring multiple local artist, crafters + live preformances!

I hope to see you there.

Best wishes,
-Chelsea Rose

More Dyad WIP photos + pics from artwalk on NW 23rd

So i did some more work on my Dyad painting:

...as you can see i have put down the first layers of acrylic paint to my outline. I am still in need of more layers, refining and polishing. So far i have only really worked on one wing and must to the other and then figure out what those strange claw/flower appendages are doing :P

On Thursday we went down to check out the first ever art walk on NW 23rd in the North Nobhill district of Portland Oregon. From now on every 3rd Thursday of the month the art community there is being given the use of vacant building to use as "pop up art galleries."
Wonderful idea no?
A couple photos from the event:

Here i am deep in discussion with one of the featured artists, Mark Marasco. We had met before at a drum circle gathering and it was really wonderful to check out his art in person...his paintings were extremely inspiring and it was a wonderful thing to drift along and talk about each piece and much more with him. It was the first time any of his painting work had made its way out into the community and i was thrilled to be present to behold it! Check out the Mark Marasco website for more info and a closer look at his work.
The pop up gallery also featured America on 13cents & a bag of paint: Living Work by Julie Love Artist
Your Car Does Not Make U Invisible: Photography by Juleen Johnson
Live music by New Weavers including harp, dulcimer, & flute
Unique Handmade Hats by Elizabeth Rohloff Designs
Art Cards made of Flower Petals by Mike Mason
gratis wine bar
Vegan Chocolate tasting by Missionary Chocolates

...i cant wait for the next one!

And then just down a block at T.Ruth Artspace Gallery was a new art installation:

I had met the artist Dani during one of my live body painting session inside T.Ruth artspace so again it was very cool to finally see her artistic expression. I love that she is such a dainty/pixie girl yet she works with heavy metal sculpture.

A photo of us together hanging out with her metal sculpture work.

...so yes, it was a fun night!

Thats it for now. more comin soon.
Peace n Love,
-Chelsea Rose

Weekend Tidbits:finishing my Trinity Pixie painting and a look at Dayzee love creations

This weekend was blissfully uneventful- sometimes you need those in order to find a balance.

Our only obligation for the weekend was on Saturday: to open up and watch our friend Tiffany's Gallery, T.Ruth Artspace, since she is till recovering from illness. We made the best of the day by setting up a couple tables along the gallery front on the sidewalk and sold some of our creations. I love sidewalk sales.
I also managed to put the final touches on a acrylic painting i have been working on:

This is the Trinity Pixie- named after her strange balance of 3 eyes. I spent about 3 hours going over her in the gallery adding more highlight and shadow/correcting shape and so on ( in this photo she was still an hours worth or work away from being finished.) Today when i get home from work i hope to sign her and coat her in a protective gloss varnish then she will be all done. I will be displaying her along with some of my other paintings next month inside the Guerrilla Gallery, curated and run by Olin and the Guerrilla Media artist collective based in Vancouver WA ( i love those folks!) I will have more on that as the date draws nearer.

I also wanted to share an etsy artist and friend with you: DayzeeLove creations
She is a UK based etsy seller whom i met via Chat on one veryyy slow day.
I recently had ordered a pair of custom made clip on earrings from her and she had sent me some extra goodies along with them and i liked them so much!

....they are called "Purple Skeleton Leaf Glass and Antique Bronze Bobby Pins with Silver background."
see her actual etsy store listing for these here.
...her creations are very hard to resist for those who are generally entranced by shiny things :P

and a close up for you:

Here is a shot documenting the lovely "Green and Purple Skeleton Leaf Glass Earrings" that she made into clip ons for me since i dont have my ears pierced. Check out her shop listing for them here.
I love etsy and the community of hands on, hand made enthusiasts and artists. Its a very good thing to have a hub such as this site where other artists can mingle and connect from all around the world with each other- sharing inspiration and helpfull tips. And even though i have my own shop on etsy i think its karmatically good to buy from another etsy shop now and again- we have to support eachother!
Speaking of my etsy shop, its been awhile since i have uploaded anything new so i will have to make a point this week to do so. However i currently have over 100 art creations for sale including original paintings, art prints, screen printed shirts, tie dye and much more so take a glance into the shop if you are curious.

So yes, hello to a new week.
Much love to all,
-Chelsea Rose

3 day weekend of art- body painting, art fairs and new acrylic on canvas!

Thank goodness for 3 day weekends! I got so much done and even had time to play and have some fun too.
....I have a lot of photos to share but i am going to start with what i am most excited to post: my new body painting photos:

Wise Woman
(body painting and photography by Chelsea Rose
Model:Suzanne Owens-Duval )

I feel blessed to have been able to work with Suzanne and include her in this growing women's study art project of mine.
A few weeks back i realized that my body painting project had a lot going for it: a wide rang of body type, ethnicity and culture but was missing a nice range of age. With this realization in mind i posted a craigslist ad asking for elderly women who might be interested in participating in my project. I only got one response and that was from my model Suzanne who turned out to be a super vivacious and skilled professional actor for screen and stage!

Wise Woman
(body painting and photography by Chelsea Rose
Model: Suzanne Owens-Duval)

We did the body painting in the loft of T.Ruth Artspace gallery on Sunday- walking down the stairs to stand in front of the backdrop on the main floor of the gallery. As always it was wondrous getting to know my model and it was uncanny how much we had in common in thoughts, feelings and intention. She seemed to have a real love for life and was well equipped to roll with life's punches through the years. We both agreed that everything happens for a reason and there is little point in regretting things. We also seemed to think that the body is a person's temple and that as women age the beauty matures and changes anew- our bodies becoming road maps showing the signs of a life lived well and to the fullest.

Wise Woman
(body painting and photography by Chelsea Rose
Model: Suzanne Owens-Duval)

I took over 500 photos of Suzanne in little over an hour and a half and i have been having a wonderful time in my spare moments this past weekend sifting through the shots and polishing the keepers. Needless to say, there will be more coming soon!

Now, jumping back to Friday...i wanted to share a quick snapshot of our simple set up for Craft In the Village:

Danny picked me up early from work so that we could drive on over to Vancouver Washington to participate for our second time in their "Craft in the Village" art vending event. It was predicted to rain but that sure didn't stop us! Our lil fair still went strong with live music and a dozen or more vendors braving the storm. It did rain buckets for an half an hour but we survived and were rewarded with blue sky and sun for the rest of the day. We did pretty well on sales considering! And as always it was wonderful fun to meet and hang out with all the other local artists.

On Saturday Danny and I watched T.Ruth Artspace gallery ( since our dear friend and the gallery owner is re cooperating from surgery.) Of course we had a blast greeting the people who walked in to enjoy the art. While i was there i did a lot of painting- which Danny had fun documenting:

The night before i had painted this basic background and inked a faery onto it using my fabercastell India ink pens. I brougth the canvas in and set up my tote easel and got to work.

I always start with the eyes!

can you tell my favorite things to draw and paint are lips and eyes?

....i like this photo- it shows how much my dreads have been growing!

....almost done! just working on the wings and then i need to go over everything again with another layer of shading and highlight!
goodness....this post is picture heavy...

On Sunday we had a surprise visit from two dear friends who have been living in southern Oregon on a beautiful stretch of land. We all made dinner together( fresh herb salad with home made pesto sauce and tortellinis)...then we all hung out on the patio as the sun set. Then they baked the most delicious cookies and we sat around watching episode upon episode of Avatar the Last Air Bender as i dreaded one of the dear fellow's mohawk!

All in all it was a wonderful few days!

Now that the new week is here i am looking forward to finishing up the painting i started on Saturday and hopefully beginning a new one. More photos from my "Wise Woman" shoot should be up soon.

Best wishes and much love,
-Chelsea Rose

Many Armed Goddess Body Painting and Ebru Marbling demo

Its July and its Friday, already- time is such a shifty slippery thing.

Check out this photo manipulation that danny made from my most recent body painting photos:

(Body painting and photography by Chelsea Rose
Model: Deonte
digital editing and manipulation by Danny )
Danny also just recently finished designing and coding a website dedicated to offering our photographer portrait services. check out Lucid Portraiture to see a good portfolio of our various portraits, styles and price ranges.

Last night was very fun. We hosted an artist demo inside T.Ruth Artspace galleryand it was a major success thanks to the amazing and wonderfully talented artist: Reza Antoszewska-she specializes in a fascinating Turkish paper marbling technique called Ebru- a monoprint technique using a thickened medium on which the artist places the paints by various methods, then works the colors in the medium with stylus, combs, and other methods to develop the designs. The print is then carefully transferred to the treated paper or fabric to capture the design.
Her Demo was amazing and everyone who was there got to make their own first Ebru artpeice:

You can see the demo set up in the first photo while the second photo shows Danny holding up his successful Ebru piece while Reza proudly smiles in approval. See his finished Ebru here.
She is standing infront of the wall where she has a spectacular body of her Ebru work up. Now that i have seen the process she is undertaking to create her art it truly is fascinating looking at the work and realizing how much control and skill she harnesses over this process. Reza's artwork will be up and on display till September so there is plenty of time to come visit the gallery and see the work in person. If you are not in the Oregon area feel free to click here to see some of her work.

In other news i am leaving work a bit early today so that we can drive on over to Vancouver Washington and set up a booth to sell our artwork at "the craft in the village" which happens every first Friday of the month. So i will have a full report with photos on how that goes.

Also- on July 4th i will be doing another body painting live inside t.ruth artspace gallery( and NO! i will not be painting her in stars and stripes*gag reflex.*) This will be my first "elderly" woman to enter into the project and i am super thrilled about it! Feel free to come on over and hang out, drink some tea and watch as the art project unrolls.

So yes....expect a photo heavy blogpost for Monday.

I do hope everyone enjoys their 3day weekend while managing to not burn anyone’s home down or explode away any limbs.
Much love!
-Chelsea Rose

Sidewalk Art Sale + Finished painting

This weekend was lovely with all of its sunshine and activity. It seems Portland had come alive, to be quickly followed by rain again. Oh well, at least we had a nice stretch of sunny weekend before the rain returns.
On Saturday Danny and I were to watch T.Ruth art space gallery for the day. We had the idea to set up a lil sidewalk art sale to see if we could catch the interest of the passer byes. It worked!

It certainly caught peoples interest and pulled a lot more traffic into the gallery.

Meanwhile Danny was working on getting more of his stencil artworks cutout while i was working on a painting:

I love working in the art gallery. I really am able to focus and sit there and paint for hours.

While i do love my home art room....working at home can be tough because there is always plenty of things to distract me, mainly my cat, my love and the computer...not to mention my patio( which was just beckoning to me all weekend because of the nice weather. All most all of my herb and flower seeds have sprouted! I hope they grow up quickly so i can enjoy them before the summer is gone and the cold seeps back into place.)

So i painted in the gallery from 1-6pm and was able to finish the painting i was working on

On Sunday i managed to paint the sides of the canvas black, sign, date and varnish the painting. Today when i am home from work i will do my best to get a good, crisp photo of the finished painting in its whole to share.

On Sunday i was also able to schedule another body painting photo shoot for this coming Sunday the 19th! It will be another white paint on dark skin painting/photo session. I hope it all works out and that the plans do not fall through!
Also excited to learn that Danny and I will be putting some artwork into a group show in Vancouver. The theme is Freedom. I will report more details soon, as they come to me.

So yes, many blessings to this new week.
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

With love,
-Chelsea Rose

Craft in the Village, painting in progress and Fuchsia blooms

I had a wondrous time at Craft in the Village in Vancouver WA for the first Friday of June . It was our first time vending at the occasion, even though we have been to hang and play before.
The weather report predicted rain for Friday so we ended up downsizing our tent set up to a single table under an awning. It worked out just right in the end, and we did wonderfully.

( photo compliments of friend and photographer Anni Becker )

I sold a good many 5" x 7" prints + got a commission for an 8" x 10" pen and ink over acrylic painted canvas of my Love Thy Self mermaid drawing.

Danny sold a bunch of his stenciled records and some of his screen prints as well.

But the fun started when i met an amazing artist: Cori Bethune. She was a beautiful voluptuous black woman with multicolor dreads selling colored pencil portraits she was making of empowered ethnic women. She also just so happens to be a reggae singer. You can check out her music via myspace here. Of course, i asked her to be a part of my body painting project and she was instantly very much positive and excited about lending her energy to the project. Now all we have to do is nail down a date for the body painting/photo session. I cant wait! This will be my third white paint on dark skin body painting.

The remainder of the day was charmed.
The Space artist collective was bustling with activity:

( photo compliments of friend and photographer Anni Becker )

They had a live poetry reading, which i volunteered to read a poem of mine that i just so happened to have in my purse. Then there was a wondrous open drum circle, live music by The Shivas and Sea of Oaks ( both local bands to Vancouver WA ). To see photos of the amazing happening check out Anni Becker's flickr account here.
I LOVE VANCOUVER and her collection of wondrous souls!
...enough said :)

Saturday was beautiful too. Danny And I hung out inside T.Ruth artspace gallery greeting folks who came in to have a look at the art. I brought the painting that i started a week or so ago to work on and i got a LOT done on it:

( 14" x 14" acrylic painting-unfinished)
Here is what i have thus far. Got the first layers of color pretty much mapped out. Couple more layers of color and highlight would do. Plus im still undecided as to what to do with her hands. I don’t like the orb idea so much as i thought i would. maybe she could be holding a flower? or a purse? or a dagger? Or perhaps the orb just needs to turn into an eyeball? or have an eyeball inside of it? I will have to do more tinkering...then we shall see.

Sunday was a lazy day spent sleeping in and listening to the rain pound the roof. I had some great moments out on the patio enjoying cups of tea and watching humming birds wizz past to enjoy the Fuchsia bloom nectar:

Danny snapped this photo as i enjoyed being surrounding by the blooms on the patio. Fuchsia plants are so enchanting...something about them really sets my imagination off. I finally found a good place to hang my Faery wall art that my cousin holly bought for me years ago. I think she is happy hanging out by all the blooms. A few weeks ago i planted a bunch of seeds in pots on my patio. The first things to sprout were the various sorts of wild flower mixes, next was the morning glories flowers and third was the Thyme. We are still waiting for the rosemary, basil, Serrano chilies and chamomile to sprout. *crossin fingers*

Thats about all the news i can muster. Im excited to see what this new week has in store.
Much love and many blessings,
-Chelsea Rose

Love Thy Self body painting and photography

So I wanted to share what I was up to over the weekend.
I did my 7th body painting and photography shoot for my body art series.
Here are the first 3 images I released over the weekend from the shoot:

Love Thy Self
(body painting and photography by Chelsea Rose
Model: Ana)

I had a wonderful time working and hanging out with Ana.
As she was telling me about herself a heart mysteriously appeared in the middle of her chest which was quite interesting seeing that she had recently been through some heart complications.

Love Thy Self
(body painting and photography by Chelsea Rose
Model: Ana)

I really enjoyed Ana's vibe in these photos. She seems to have a gentle strength to her that is both bewitching and inspirational.

It was a bright sunny day in Portland on Saturday both i think both of us were quite satisfied to be hanging out inside the loft of T.Ruth Art space and creating art. I love this project. I enjoy getting to know my models. I view them as art collaborators. Its fascinating to talk and hear each woman's personal wisdom. I could easily say i learn a thing or two with each woman i work with on this project.

...so thats it for now. i will be posting more photos from the shoot gradually per day for a couple weeks. So far i dont believe i have a photoshoot scheduled for this coming Saturday, so i will be working on trying to book one!

As for Sunday it was a stay at home kind of day. I spent most of the day sitting on the couch drinking tea, watchin movies while drawing with my ink pens atop a bunch of acrylic painted wood that i had prepped on Friday. I will be taking photos of the finished illustrations very soon and they will most probably end up listed in our etsy shop for sale!

Many blessings,
-Chelsea Rose
