Eternal Canvas a short story by Chelsea Rose

Happy Friday all.<br />For the first time on my blog I am going to share a short fiction story I wrote.<br />I am particpating in a <a href="http://greenwoman.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/in-which-you-are-invited-to-a-party/"><strong>fiction writing party</strong></a> a friend of mine holds once a month on her blog. The offical blog party begins on Sunday but seeing that i beleive i wont have much time to access the computer over the weekend i figured i would go ahead and post it today. Anyhoo, for those who enjoy reading please feel free and do let me know your thoughts!<br />Speical thanks to my writing buddies <a href="http://forestlass.blogspot.com/"><strong>Sara</strong></a> and <a href="http://greenwoman.wordpress.com/"><strong>Michelle</strong></a> for making a few much needed swipes through with their red markers. Much love!<br /><br /><strong>"Eternal Canvas"<br />a short fiction story by Chelsea Rose Rippel</strong><br /><br />Tattered sleeves whisked wildly as the fringed and ragged hair of the paint brush swirled its <a href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3270/3090397155_1716db6dc4.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3270/3090397155_1716db6dc4.jpg" style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 265px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 500px; CURSOR: hand" /></a>color leaving a torrential vomit of rainbow in its wake. The canvas was shadowed here and there by a looming figure so alive with energy the room radiated and glowed in the strange wafting warmth emitted. Yes, there she stood, her head cocked ever so to the right, pale lips parted, blood shot eyes intent yet soft focused on the canvas as she watched in her own fevered way the delicate bones, joints and sinuses of her hand weave strange and wondrous worlds. Each of her smoldering paint strokes focused the inexplicable webbing of truth that gathered at times like these as buds of daggered lightning, alighting from somewhere above, or was it in-between? It had always funneled this way, where ever it came from, straight into that whirling vein of energy that taped deep into the membrane of her crown. These spasms were impossible to ignore as they punctured and reverberated deep within that mysterious gland, always resting in its nest of brain matter, cozy in its den smack dab in the middle of her forehead, the location of what the ancient shamans deemed The Third Eye... <span class="fullpost"><br /><br />She paused, dropping the paint brush to free her hand so that she might press her finger tips to the throbbing ember that was her cranium. She had turned away from her work and all at once the spell was broken; she had been granted a reprieve. There yes, she rubbed the ache there, in-between the eyes, kneading it to milk the tension away only to find that the burning was contagious and had slowly flushed her entire system with spasms of feeling. Within that split second she became all too aware of bodily needs. The pain was more than severe so her knees buckled and she fell back, away from the easel, away from the varnishes, the glazes, the rags, the paint tubes. She landed in a crumple on her futon mattress, the only other furnishing in the closet sized dwelling.<br /><br />“What is this? Why is this? What day is it?” her intellect demanded. Her stomach, a hard knot, clenched and burned as if eating its way out of her. She blindly pawed at her body but felt nothing more than a series of lumps that seemed to be horribly brittle and sunken. She wanted to have a look in the mirror but no matter how hard her mind commanded the body to move its only response was a series of shudders- it just shivered in its huddle of bone and flesh on the bed. She laid like that without concept of time, with no other thought in her mind but the concentration needed for each breath taken and released.<br />--<br />Sparrow had successfully scavenged enough supplies to last them another month but it had taken longer than usual which added to his growing concern that soon there would be nothing left to salvage. How then would he continue to feed and clothe himself and Dove? He had dreams of seeds, of clean water and warm fertile soil to grow beans, tomatoes, carrots, celery, potato, squash and more. But the only food he had ever known came from a can and even if he had access to seeds the land had been left parched and toxic years before he had entered the world. And still, Sparrow had more immediate concerns to deal with. He had been gone for how many weeks? He hoped desperately that Dove had managed to keep away from her painting.<br /><br />Sparrow’s footsteps were harried and faltering in his rapid efforts to propel himself through oil slicked puddles. As he hurdled through alleyways, fingers of rusted barbed wire clawed at his coat, and he pushed himself harder, jolting through a maze of abandoned buildings. The concrete and steel behemoths were infested with a plethora of strange folks, street urchins, squatters, and who knows what other remnants of the human race—all struggling to survive.<br /><br />Why was he so worried? He had carefully packed away all her art materials before leaving on his hunt. Dove had promised to do her best to resist the calling she would inevitably feel. It had all started out simply enough, hadn’t it? They had found each other early on before either of them could speak more than a few words. It was a miracle they had come this far alone together, pitted against a self destructive and decaying world. Still, they had endured and Sparrow wasn’t about to give up now, even if their woes had begun to extend far beyond the dangers of the streets out into a great and unnerving mystery.<br /><br />But it wasn’t all that mysterious if one considered Dove and her habits. She always did have a need to draw. Sparrow had seen her first doing it on concrete, using the end of a burnt piece of wood to furiously mark out spirals, eyes, planets and a great number of other things they had no words for. As they grew together so did their interests and ambitions. Sparrow himself had always been a tinkerer, enjoying the thrill of improvised creation and invention. Dove continued to draw more frequently until she eventually began doing it by impulse no matter the situation.<br /><br />One day when Sparrow was down scavenging in the lower Warf end of what once was the great city’s epicenter, he came upon the ruins of a school. Anything of value seemed to have already been long since looted or destroyed by the moist and salty costal air. Yet as he had sifted through the rubble, things of color and shape began to catch his eye. Pieces of canvas they were with great swooping lines of jade and indigo making up the form of a hillside green with pasture. The next was drawn out in a frenzy of red scribbles that seemed to magically conjure up a detailed portrait of a young woman naked and posed as if reaching to the stars. There was more of this, much more and so he began to collect piles of these drawings, rolling them up all together as one to take back to Dove.<br /><br />Sparrow had spun around with an ecstatic spirit, thrilled to run back and present Dove with these gifts, but in his mad dash his foot caught on something hard. Falling forward he broke right through the rotted board of a closet only to reveal a great many storage tubs. With shaking hands he opened each container in awe as he began to see tubes of color, marvelously elegant brushes of all different shapes and jars containing important looking gels and liquids. Sparrow also found a great many pieces of pure white canvas stretched firm and taunt over wooden bars sealed tightly in protective plastic. The newness of it all gleamed and sparkled. He felt he had truly found a treasure trove.<br /><br />When Sparrow presented the loot to Dove, her face lit up like a lantern, and she gleefully sorted through the tubes of pigment. He helped her set up the easel he had found once he had replaced a few hinges. Sparrow remembers being absolutely astonished at how quickly and with such ease Dove utilized the supplies. No, she had never seen a paint brush or any of the other supplies yet she seemed to instinctively know what to do with each.<br /><br />This was all less than two months ago and ever since he watched Dove fall into an existence almost akin to slavery. Day in and day out she poured herself into her canvas paintings. If Sparrow was not there to care for her he doubted Dove’s ability to remember to eat or even to relieve herself. Painting had claimed her very existence almost entirely. When he did manage to pull Dove away from her work she seemed dazed, her jaw slack and her large marvelous eyes roving at a loss even when looking upon his face. Sparrow hadn’t a clue what to do, almost preferring the sharp focused and demon driver Dove then the listless, living dead Dove that he was confronted with when he pulled her away from her work.<br /><br />It was early morning, the sun just beginning to break the steely obsidian skin of the horizon, revealing a harsh and jagged skyline full of building remnants and swirling entities of bonfire smoke. The oddly prehistoric silhouetted forms of burnt out street lamps jutted every stretch of pavement like teeth serving as mocking reminders of a failed and ruined way of life. Their home, the abandoned water tower, was planted in one of the few plots of land void of large forsaken buildings. Sparrow snaked his way through the graveyard of junk that was piled high and deep, past old decomposing car shells, tires, broken furniture, computer equipment, stereos and televisions. The climb up the rusting side ladder to the tower was completed quickly and without thought or fear of the height.<br /><br />Normally Sparrow would pause once he got up the ladder to the door in order to gaze out on the wasted cityscape. He always felt that while there was a great ugliness present in the world they inhabited, there was also a profound sense of restorative slumber. The world “civilizations” might have toppled under the weight of their own greedy and reckless behavior, but he truly believed the earth itself was lying dormant, healing and waiting for some sign, maybe even someone to inspire her to adorn the globe once more in life eternal. He had to believe in such things otherwise there was nothing left for him and Dove other then rubble and decay. Still, this was not a time for a moment of deep breaths and hopeful dreams. He was frightened and shivering like a hunted rabbit worried about Dove and how she coped with his absence.<br /><br />When Sparrow opened the door to the tower there was no sign of Dove herself. With a shock and surge of great terror he noticed that the easel was back up and the canvas painting that sat upon it looked to be completed. The tiny bulb of a room the water tower provided for them was filled with a surging glow of every color imaginable all seemingly emitted from the canvas. He fumbled around fighting for the willpower to keep his eyes away from the mesmerizing whirl of sensations in order to search for Dove.<br /><br />“Sparrow….Here….The Bed….So glad…So glad” Dove gasped, using the minute amount of strength left within her to reach up and caress his hand.<br /><br />Sparrow’s entire body clenched in horror as he felt Dove’s hand slip into his own. It felt as though he was holding a paper thin bag of bones. He kneeled to cradle her waif thin form, resting his cheek next to her pillow. For some time they lay like this together communicating without words through the locking of their eyes. Dove’s eyes were vast and full of a strangeness Sparrow struggled to identify. Even in her obviously sick and wasted state Dove glowed with an eerie shimmer of potential; her beauty akin to the flowing grace of the sunset filled sky-precious and fleeting. In that moment he knew he couldn’t keep her. Dove was already drifting away, her essence only lingering to gaze the way she was with every grain of her being at him. Dove was smiling as she breathed her last rasping breath.<br /><br />Yet before Sparrow had time to let a single tear escape something blew like a shockwave filling the tower with a harsh pulsating light so bright he could momentarily see through his own flesh to the curves and contours of his bone. The light continued to surge until all was lost in an endless expanse of white. Sparrow was left alone. Dove’s form disappeared with the rest of his world. Yet in some strange sense it was fitting to him. He wasn’t sure he wanted to be a part of a world without Dove.<br /><br />“So, why am I still here?” Sparrow pleaded, his hoarse cry rippling off into a chorus of echoes, stretching out to eventually lose itself in the great white. And<br />as if in answer to his plea, Dove’s painting appeared before him, hovering at eye level. For the first time since Dove had begun her masterpiece Sparrow allowed himself to truly behold the painting without the clouds of worry and fear for her well being to dull his senses. It was a thing of mesmerizing beauty, the detail so intrinsic and the colors so alive he swore he could taste them.<br /><br />Sparrow began to comprehend the subject matter, it was what the art books would label as a landscape yet it was much more than that, so lucid it felt more to him like a waking dream trapped in rectangular form. In the very middle stood their water tower taken over by a wild spiraling of vine boasting a plethora of ultra violet trumpet flowers. The plot of surrounding land was void of the rusting multitude of rubbish, replaced by a smooth even pack of rich chocolate tinted earth. The horizon stretched on and on, the jagged dilapidated buildings that once made up the skyline were gone and replaced here and there by a lacing of misty ever green trees that parted to reveal the tips of the coast that possessed an ocean glowing emerald and gold in the setting sun.<br /><br />The stark white emptiness of his surroundings compounded the life and promise within the painting that continued to hover like a dream before him. Furthermore, he could feel the essence of Dove radiating off of the painting like the summer sun. Her spirit held him, caressed him and eased him closer to the work of art.<br /><br />“It’s all done now, Sparrow. Please look after it, care for it. It’s yours.” The voice of his Dove breathed and exuded the words like the most precious of gems and Sparrow smiled joyfully, suddenly aware that she was waiting for him within. Without hesitation Sparrow leaped into the painting, each brush stroke remaking him whole until he stood once more atop their water tower, gazing into the realness of Dove’s great transformation. He scurried down the ladder eagerly kicking off his worn shoes to plant his feet deep into the warm and supple soil. Bittersweet tears of loss and renewal flowed freely down his astonished features as he saw and felt Dove in every drop of life eternal around and within him. And look! There were his tomatoes, and there carrots, squash, cabbage and more.<br /><br />Sparrow tore his eyes away from the patchwork of his great garden and spied an assortment of confused yet overjoyed huddles of people dotting the landscape here and there as far as his eyes could see. He understood now. Dove. She had done all this. The world he saw, felt and breathed was an exactment of her masterpiece. Dove’s vision was that something, that someone, the catalyst for the forgiveness and return of Gaia, Mother Earth.<br /><br />Sparrow’s heart sang with inspiration as he began his trek to the nearest group of fellow survivors. He understood that a lot of work was ahead of them and he was full of motivation, savoring thoughts of community, harmony and the return of man to its sacred role of caretaker to the land. And yet Sparrow couldn’t help but wonder just how many worlds man would burn through before The Great Balance was finally actualized. </span>

More Body Painting photos and the plotting of self publishing a book

So, I have my fist exhibition of my body art/photography women's study series coming up in December. All of the sudden it dawned on me that i only have a couple months before its show time so i have begun pushing myself into the final stages of the creative process. There are a lot of things to consider right now such as how many pages i want my book to be( i am thinking around 50 and that includes title page, introduction and an acknowledgements page.) So i have to go through those 53 and lower my catch to the Golden chosen. Meanwhile, Danny is working on the design and layout of the book and i have to begin writing an intro or asking someone else to write one for me. Once i have that all together i get to take a trip to the print shop and figure out if i want hard cover or soft, what kind of paper to have it all printed on and so on. Then i need to figure out how many pieces i should be printing for the gallery show/exhibition- what size they will be and how i will be framing and mattering them.<br />My head is spinning a little :)<br />So thats one big project i am devoting energy towards.<br />I am also working on a small painting and getting my stuff ready for Last Thursday Art walk on Alberta st which is this week!<br />Also, i am working on a music project with <a href="http://www.myspace.com/bonesandall"><strong>Bone and All</strong></a> where i am reciting poetry along with the super spacey psychedelic noise. I am not sure when the final tracks will be mastered but i will certainly be sharing when its all ready.<br />....So thats my news update!<br />Stay tuned.<br />-Chelsea Rose

Weekend bliss: Queen Bead, KPG live music, mermaid acrylic painting, playing dress up and morning glory flower

This weekend was eventful and this coming week will be the same way or perhaps doubly so!<br /><br />First off, one more photo to share from my body painting photo shoot with Queen Bead:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4828920564/" title="Queen Bead by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Queen Bead" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4095/4828920564_f51abd0ba4.jpg" width="358" /></a><br />(body painting and photography by Chelsea Rose<br />Model: Queen Bead )<br /><br />Why is she called Queen Bead? well thats her artist/stage name. She is the head woman for a local reggae band called KPG - Keep Portland Green and her voice coupled with the music made me tingle. I danced all night long:<br /><br /><img src="http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/71/l_0cdd7fbfbfe74806aaa175fe684b6e9b.jpg" /><br /><br /><img height="399" src="http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/124/l_2ab43f4ae31845dab75fcb643896a515.jpg" style="WIDTH: 443px; HEIGHT: 340px" width="535" /><br /><p></p><p>....needless to say i was super sore the next day and have realized how out of shape i have gotten- need to dance more!! This was a wonderful way to start the weekend.</p><p>On Saturday Danny and I watched <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/">T.Ruth artspace gallery </a><br />We set up a lil sidewalk art sale and worked on various projects inside while greeting the people who came in to look at art. Queen Bead dropped by with her son, i gave her a CD full of the body painting photos of her and we chatted for a couple hours. </p><p>I also managed to get some work done on my mermaid painting:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4827974753/" title="Working on my Mermaid by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Working on my Mermaid" height="359" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4134/4827974753_c11946a553.jpg" width="500" /></a>....i am not sure what it is with painting mermaids but they always give me trouble. I am assuming its their trickster/mischievous nature. I have been drawing them since i was 5, so i better get used to painting them since i love mermaids so much!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4828581800/" title="What my art table looks like right now by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="What my art table looks like right now" height="335" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4828581800_1139b5e35b.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />...i think she finally did manage to cooperate and i got a fair amount of work finished on her. Shes at least got her first layer of paint on...i am going to put in some flowy side fins on her tail and a bunch of bubbles in her hair. Blue/green and yellow orange is a strange color combo for me and i dont think i can say i have it mastered yet so i will have to do a lot more tweaking with it till i am happy. So there is loads more work to do on her- i pray i can find the time to do it in the next few weeks!<br /><br />In other news...i discovered that my dreads have grown long enough to do side buns...whoohooo!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4828567472/" title="Dreadlock Buns by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Dreadlock Buns" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4118/4828567472_1af7ecdd67.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />Can you tell i was quite excited?<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4827960445/" title="Dreadlock Buns by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Dreadlock Buns" height="335" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4827960445_cf5da79491.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />....turns out to be a great dread-do for the hot summer months- helps keep the dreads up to cool off the neck!<br /><br />Also, I came to realize that the <a href="http://www.faerieworlds.com/">FaerieWorlds Festival</a> is this coming weekend! I must go and so i shall. Also will be happily helping the singer Joanne Berman Juskus who heads the band <a href="http://telesmaband.com/">Telesma</a> by giving her and her drummer a lift to the festival- they will be playing there at 5:30pm. Whats extremely exciting, that i just now learned via facebook message a sec ago, is that they are hoping to have me do some body painting on the digeridoo man( Ian Hesford) for their preformance! I cant wait. I guess Ian usually goes onstage painted up very tribal and has even been painted by Alex Grey for a concert! If you have time...check them out, they make some wonderous psychedelic mind blowing music.</p><p>So yes... looks like i will be doing all that on Saturday. This realization had me diving into my costume bag to figure out what to wear:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4827951935/" title="Playing Dress Up by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Playing Dress Up" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4827951935_6789d4cd58.jpg" width="359" /></a><br />I love playing dress up!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4827951891/" title="Playing Dress Up by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Playing Dress Up" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4101/4827951891_85fe35f2c0.jpg" width="345" /></a><br />...i think this hat is going to save me from turning into one big sunburn on Saturday.<br />I am also super excited to hear that the two corsets i commissioned Danny's amazingly talented seamstress sister to make me are on their way in the mail! Thus...i may be strutting about with one of my new ones on for the fair. I had her make one under bust corset with this crazy 60s mushroom fabric i found and another corset- over bust(1700's styled) out of a wonderful purple brocade. Its getting closer to the end of July and the beginning of August. I am trying out a natural pinkish skin tone and not liking it at all. However, it may just be too early to tell. What i really need to do is add some more layers of colors and shadow before i make any rash judgments but its been hard to find motivation to work on her unfortunately. However i will have plenty of time to stare her down and do some work on Saturday when Danny and I go and watch <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>T.Ruth art space</strong></a> gallery from 1-6pm. i really do enjoy painting in the back while doing my best at greeting people when they filter in to look at all the art.<br /><br />In other news Danny made a new screen print from his "Evolve" design. The background is his faery star screen, the mushroom his most recent silkscreen creation.<br /><br />I am in love with the new prints and lucked out by getting the first "evolve" print on a shirt- all for myself:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4817360726/" title="Evolve mushroom screen print by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Evolve mushroom screen print" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4097/4817360726_6cc57cb0fb.jpg" width="381" /></a><br />Isn't it lovely? If you want a print of your own feel fee to send in a custom order with t-shirt size/color and paint color preferences!<br /><br />....Did you notice the hat? well i recently got it in order to help shield myself from the constant bombardments of sunburns that summers tend to inflict on my pale skin. When i came home with it the other day Danny thought it was ridiculously huge and likened it to wearing a sombrero! But i do love it and my good friend Dr. Bob gave me the cool paper blue flower to adorn the hat with. I think the hat will do well for the long bus rides home in the sun, the summer hikes we take and all the hours ill be spending sitting in direct sun at the various art fairs of the season.<br /><br />I also have a couple patio garden snapshots to share:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4816733119/" title="patio garden by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="patio garden" height="335" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4140/4816733119_9a91dcb328.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />Its a true luxury to have a lil outside patio to ourselves amongst the pitfalls of apartment living. Although i dream of working an actual piece of land to plant all sorts of edibles I am making due with what space i do have. i started a potted herb garden from seeds( i think i will do starts next time since seed growing is magical to witness but a slow slow thing.) So far i have the following herbs sprouting happily: cilantro, chile, basil and chamomile. However i am most excited about the morning glory vine that i planted. The morning glory vine have been so quick to grow, some of their leafy vines already climbed the lattice and are beginning to work their way around the top of the patio rail. I was very excited the other morning to find my first two buds ready to burst:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4816735619/" title="Morning Glory buds by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Morning Glory buds" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4816735619_3e60020d6d.jpg" width="353" /></a><br />Morning Glory is my favorite sort of flower. I also find it endlessly fascinating to look at the sketchbooks and see my style of drawing slowly morphing and changing direction. I am eager to see how my style changes in a few short years.<br /><br />I am about a weekends worth of work away from finishing another painting sparked by a drawing of mine. Queen Bead arrived around 10:30am and we got to painting after plugging in a few fans in the back of the gallery.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/4783627794/" title="body painting in progress by Lucid Optic Lab, on Flickr"><img alt="body painting in progress" height="335" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4079/4783627794_49e370726d.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />(process shot taken by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/lucidopticlab"><strong>Danny</strong></a> )<br />I was truly amazed at how quickly this body painting was finished. We got started around 10:30am and finished around 1:30pm, then took pictures till around 2:30/3pm.<br /><br />Queen Bead was my 12 body painting for this series/women's study and I am very pleased with the photos and how it all turned out.<br /><br />I was positively bursting with inspiration as soon as i met this woman a couple months ago at the art fair "Craft in the Village" in Vancouver WA. She was sitting at a booth with her son selling colored pencil and ink illustrations of powerful queens, empresses and goddesses. I was entranced by her persona and energy and couldn't help but run up and ask if she might be interested in modeling for my body painting women's study. To my glee she instantly seemed interested in the project saying it sounds like just the thing she needs for her CD/Album cover art! Turns out <strong>she is an inspired reggae singer- her stage name being Queen Bead. Many Armed Goddess Body Painting and Ebru Marbling demo

We hosted an artist demo inside <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>T.Ruth Artspace gallery</strong></a>and it was a major success thanks to the amazing and wonderfully talented artist: Reza Antoszewska-she specializes in a fascinating Turkish paper marbling technique called Ebru- a monoprint technique using a thickened medium on which the artist places the paints by various methods, then works the colors in the medium with stylus, combs, and other methods to develop the designs. The print is then carefully transferred to the treated paper or fabric to capture the design.<br />Her Demo was amazing and everyone who was there got to make their own first Ebru artpeice:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/4755727184/" title="marbleing by Lucid Optic Lab, on Flickr"><img alt="marbleing" height="306" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4137/4755727184_5aa882f0c9.jpg" width="450" /></a><br />You can see the demo set up in the first photo while the second photo shows Danny holding up his successful Ebru piece while Reza proudly smiles in approval. See his finished Ebru <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/4755727322/"><strong>here</strong></a>.<br />She is standing infront of the wall where she has a spectacular body of her Ebru work up. Now that i have seen the process she is undertaking to create her art it truly is fascinating looking at the work and realizing how much control and skill she harnesses over this process. Reza's artwork will be up and on display till September so there is plenty of time to come visit the <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>gallery</strong></a> and see the work in person. So i will have a full report with photos on how that goes.<br /><br />Also- on July 4th i will be doing another body painting live inside t.ruth artspace gallery( and NO! i will not be painting her in stars and stripes*gag reflex.*) This will be my first "elderly" woman to enter into the project and i am super thrilled about it! So indeed...we set up a date for the body painting right away.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4719724942/" title="Body painting-process shot by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Body painting-process shot" height="371" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/4719724942_28aee856e1.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />As always i had the most wonderful time getting to know my model as i painted her from head to toe. By her enchanting accent i guessed that she had exotic roots- turns out she was born and raised in the Caribbean islands thus her speech was quite musicale and fun. She is in Portland on a full scholarship for her amazing athletic abilities in sprint running...and she has the legs to prove it! Her body was one big muscle and i found within her a spring of energy that had me painting in a flurry of strokes. I actually did one of my most detailed body paintings on this women in less time then i have painted any of the other 9 woman before her. I began painting her around 10am and we finished well before 2pm and were done with the photoshoot by 3pm!<br />In many of the shots she seems to exude a wonderful balance of strength and grace often looking so regal and strong it beckons to ones mind images of warrior women. She was sooo fun to work with and i am smitten with the results.<br />I cant wait share more from out shoot- so stay tuned.<br /><br />Peace n Love,<br />-Chelsea Rose

Body painting close up photos and news!

So that past week has been an eventful one. Just yesterday we finished moving to our new apartment- its amazing how much time and energy this can eat up but im happy for the change. I finally have my art space set up in a somewhat functional way so now i have little excuse not to work on the painting i have been neglecting for some time now. She had washed her face and put her clothing on and was struck by how the body painting suddenly looked like fierce tattoo sleeves with her tank top on. so she posed just like that and insisted i get my camera out and snap one. I love it! It just reminds me that granted this body painting/photo project takes a lot of energy to generate but I have so much fun doing these shoots!<br /><br />I have another pregnant body painting shoot scheduled for this Saturday inside <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>T.Ruth Artspace gallery</strong></a>, so i am excited and looking forward to the weekend.<br />Thus far this body painting project has been a fascinating adventure. I am thrilled to have gotten to know the women who volunteered to be a part of the project. Their personal strengths and beauty have lent so much amazing energy- its extremely inspiring for me. I'm excited to see what the next step/level to this project might entail.<br /><br />Id also like to give thanks, praise and many blessings to Tiffany Ruth, the owner of <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>T.Ruth Art space</strong></a> where i have been painting and photographing my models. Tiffany is currently in the hospital due to medical complications. She should be released in a few days but I'm asking for those who can spare some good vibe to send it her way. Weekend art projects- works in progress

So this weekend I focused on a healthy combination of spring cleaning, watching x-files, and working on art projects new and old.<br /><br />By the end of Sunday my apartment was tidy with one exception: my art table:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4553038966/" title="art corner by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="art corner" height="335" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1248/4553038966_c925a50cec.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />Pretty messy huh?<br /><br />Well it is a productive mess, so i dont mind so much.<br /><br />I managed to begin a new painting that i had been talking about starting for a few weeks now:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4553057156/" title="humble beginnings by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="humble beginnings" height="482" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1425/4553057156_3dbc9a37a3.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />freaky huh?<br /><br />I started this painting based off of an older pen and ink drawing that you can view <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4141252596/in/set-72157610826119454/"><strong>here</strong></a>.<br />I dont use the color red very often. I have found that even when i use it minimally in my artwork people become very disturbed by the piece. So this use of red comes as a bit of a shock but i felt it matched the fierceness of the creature. I have to admit i decided to paint this piece in semi retaliation for all the flack i catch for painting my faeries, my goddesses, my creatures of all sorts with nude breast. People have told me the offense doesn't necessarily lie in the "suggestion" of nude breast but the full nudity of the breast including the showcasing of the nipple. Well....there are no nipples to be seen in this painting but im sure its still pretty "jarring"<br />: P<br /><br />I also worked on finishing a few more ink drawing over acrylic painted canvas:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4552407299/" title="more ink over acrylic by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="more ink over acrylic" height="338" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3310/4552407299_2f32b65d7a.jpg" width="500" /></a><br /><br />The three that i have propped up here i had just finished gloss varnishing. Im trying to pump these out so i can have a bunch to display and hopefully sell come this Thursday which just so happens to be Last Thursday Artwalk on Alberta st (portland oregon) where i will have a full booth set up selling my art wares. I have a few of these "ink over acrylic painted canvas" art pieces for sell in <a href="http://www.lucidopticlab.etsy.com/"><strong>my etsy shop</strong></a>, just check out my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/LucidOpticLab?section_id=5532602"><strong>original artwork</strong></a> section. They are selling for $45.<br /><br />...So that's that.
