Work in Progress- Mistress of the Orb

<div align="left">Hello all! I had a nice relaxing weekend. We decided not to vend at the Portland Saturday market because of the rather rainy/windy weather so i got to sleep in and then work on house and art projects. I started my "Mistress of the Orb" painting. I painted the background as a ebbing yellow orange vortex of sort and then drew the Mistress on over it with my India ink pens. See...the other day when i was at the art store looking for canvas my mom called, whom i hadn't talked to in awhile, so as i shopped I was distracted. When i got home i realized that for whatever reason the canvas that i bought was much much bigger then I intended it to be. So much that it wouldn't fit on my table top easel in the art room. Thus, I set up one of my large display easels and took over the dining room. It was a nice change! Anyway...I will keep posting photos as i work more on this painting. Maybe Danny will take another time lapse video of me painting, we shall see.</div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">In other news on Saturday we went to the "Better Living" show at the Portland Expo center because we learned that <a href="http://www.fungi.com/index.html">Fungi Perfecti</a> would be there with a booth selling their awesome mushroom grow kits. We bought a great in <a href="http://www.fungi.com/kits/indoor.html">home grow kit for Shiitake mushrooms</a>. In a few days we will begin growing our own yummy fungi! We also bought Reshi Mushroom( very good medicinal mushroom for things like blood pressure, bodily organ balancing, immune booster and cancer preventor which we will turn into tea.) Only since they didn't have the grow kits we bought <a href="http://www.fungi.com/plugs/index.html">Reshi Mushroom spore plugs</a>. The idea is to plant the plugs into a freshly cut hardwood log( maple or alder preferably), water and wait for the mushrooms to begin growing. I cant wait!!! But we haven't found our log yet...still on the hunt for that. Now that i have added in those psychedelic wool dreads + ribbons and beads I am really starting to feel they are extensions of my spirit. I had kept them plain for a long time so that they could be considered acceptable at work but i found 90% of the time i was wrapping them up so they were out of sight anyway. So i decided to go ahead and start adorning my locks. I feel they are becoming a thing of art, which i love and can truly feel with my soul!<br /><br />In other news, check out my new apron:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/5362612480/" title="New apron by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="New apron" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5166/5362612480_5720a44770.jpg" width="395" /></a><br />My dear friend Dr.Bob kindly sewed it up for me. It was made from a vintage dress i found at the goodwill bins awhile ago. Strangely enough this is my first apron. Wearing an apron while painting was something i hadn't considered doing until recently when i realized that everything i owed has some amount of paint on it which was making it very hard to dress for work. I knew i wouldn't actually use apron unless it would be interesting enough for me to want to wear it. I think this apron is the one! I have it hung right before my painting table so that i have to walk by it to get to my easel. lets see if i can manage to remember to wear it!<br /><br />So thats all the "newness" i have for you this Monday morning.<br /><br />However, today is Marten Luther King Jr day. On the way to work I was listening to the DemocracyNow broadcast( listen to it <a href="http://www.democracynow.org/2011/1/17/special_dr_martin_luther_king_jr"><strong>here</strong></a> ) in which they were doing a special focusing on his anti war, anti violence and anti profiteering stance. Many of his words which he spoke about Vietnam are still extremely relevant to today's world affairs. I especially enjoyed a quote he recited during his "Beyond Vietnam" speech:<br /><br /><br />"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." -JFK<br /><br />Peace n Love,<br />-Chelsea Rose

Its getting closer to the end of July and the beginning of August. Queen Bead will be singing with her reggae band tonight at a club in Washington. I am trying out a natural pinkish skin tone and not liking it at all. However, it may just be too early to tell. What i really need to do is add some more layers of colors and shadow before i make any rash judgments but its been hard to find motivation to work on her unfortunately. However i will have plenty of time to stare her down and do some work on Saturday when Danny and I go and watch <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>T.Ruth art space</strong></a> gallery from 1-6pm. i really do enjoy painting in the back while doing my best at greeting people when they filter in to look at all the art.<br /><br />In other news Danny made a new screen print from his "Evolve" design. If you want a print of your own feel fee to send in a custom order with t-shirt size/color and paint color preferences!<br /><br />....Did you notice the hat? well i recently got it in order to help shield myself from the constant bombardments of sunburns that summers tend to inflict on my pale skin. When i came home with it the other day Danny thought it was ridiculously huge and likened it to wearing a sombrero! But i do love it and my good friend Dr. Bob gave me the cool paper blue flower to adorn the hat with. I think the hat will do well for the long bus rides home in the sun, the summer hikes we take and all the hours ill be spending sitting in direct sun at the various art fairs of the season.<br /><br />I also have a couple patio garden snapshots to share:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4816733119/" title="patio garden by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="patio garden" height="335" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4140/4816733119_9a91dcb328.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />Its a true luxury to have a lil outside patio to ourselves amongst the pitfalls of apartment living. Although i dream of working an actual piece of land to plant all sorts of edibles I am making due with what space i do have. i started a potted herb garden from seeds( i think i will do starts next time since seed growing is magical to witness but a slow slow thing.) So far i have the following herbs sprouting happily: cilantro, chile, basil and chamomile. However i am most excited about the morning glory vine that i planted. The morning glory vine have been so quick to grow, some of their leafy vines already climbed the lattice and are beginning to work their way around the top of the patio rail. I was very excited the other morning to find my first two buds ready to burst:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4816735619/" title="Morning Glory buds by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="Morning Glory buds" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4816735619_3e60020d6d.jpg" width="353" /></a><br />Morning Glory is my favorite sort of flower. I wish i was small enough to live in their enchanting purple trumpet blooms.<br /><br />On that note i will break off this post.<br />Its supposed to be a hot weekend so who knows how much i will get done really...hopefully some painting, maybe some hiking but i am sure there will be a lot of time spent in the shade drinking some iced herbal tea, watching the plants on the patio grow.<br /><br />Much love to all,<br />-Chelsea Rose

I have them all ready at hand right next to my art table to skim through for inspiration- mostly finding them a goldmine to expound upon. I look at the books and see stored potential, stored energy eager to manifest someday into a newly executed drawing or painting. I also find it endlessly fascinating to look at the sketchbooks and see my style of drawing slowly morphing and changing direction. I am eager to see how my style changes in a few short years.<br /><br />I am about a weekends worth of work away from finishing another painting sparked by a drawing of mine. Artwork In Progress, new home art studio + news and things

I had intended to be showing off my finished painting in this entry but alas- i didn't get it done in time so i have some "work in progress" shots to share instead!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4625737253/" title="work in progress by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="work in progress" height="419" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3299/4625737253_4ce2b5cd7f.jpg" width="500" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4626336150/" title="endowment close up by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="endowment close up" height="335" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3333/4626336150_bc114d5b93.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />I took these yesterday. I changed two things mainly- i did a rough/dark vignette around the painting and i changed the positing of the hands and arms a bit more. Things are still pretty rough so this weekend i hope to get in there and define the shapes better and get the color smoothly blended + make some final touches and be done!<br />I could have probably finished this painting this week but i had little time. Tiffany Ruth, my dear friend who is also the owner of <a href="http://www.truthartspace.com/"><strong>T.Ruth Art space gallery</strong></a> has been in the hospital so i have been rushing over to the space after work to hang out in the gallery, greet customers, take phone calls and water the plants. Tiffany is pulling through ok- she is such a strong woman!<br />I think it will be another few weeks till she is back in the gallery. I do really enjoy spending time in there. In fact i will be in the gallery all day Saturday doing another body painting/photo session. So stop by and say Hi if you are in the neighborhood!<br /><br />In other news i do have most of my new home art studio set up:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidrose/4625728475/" title="home art studio by lucidRose, on Flickr"><img alt="home art studio" height="306" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3353/4625728475_ee43d169d6.jpg" width="450" /></a><br />As you can see im still feeling the room out. Its the first time i have been able to claim an entire room to dedicate to art and art supplies. Its wonderfull to be able to walk into the room, shut the door and work with privacy and without distraction. i have been trying hard to keep my cat Sushi from coming into the room- thus hopefully making the area a cat hair free zone( which will come in handy when im painting and varnishing!) Its also such a luxery to be able contain all my art mess in one room- be able to simply shut the door and its out of sight!<br />All and all...im digging the new set up. They are done up in my favorite color combo: Green and Purple! This is my Mom and I. I really love her tie-dye shirt!<br /><br />Honestly there is not too much going on. I'm still scouring the local art stores for the acrylic paint I like to use. This paint dilemma has stunted my progress on my Harpy painting, unfortunately. But once I get my hands on some more paint I am hoping to make up for the lost time and get it done quick!<br /><br />Until then I am working on a project for my dear friend Randy Wonder Tooth. He commissioned me to paint his huge canvas trench coat- making it into a super special, majickle woods man jacket for him to romp around in the Wolfcreek sanctuary( beautiful piece of southern Oregon land!) in. So far I have painted the parts I wish to embellish with a layer of white screen print paint as a surface prep. I then projected my <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucidopticlab/2557055452/in/set-72157608355989558/"><strong>Green Man design</strong></a> onto the back of the coat and transferred it. Tonight I begin working in the color!( Wonder provided me with lots and lots of super wonderful Lumiere metallic fabric paint I will try and take some creative process pictures too, since this is my first big fabric painting project ever.<br /><br />Other then those projects cookin on the side it looks like I will be traveling back to California for the Holidays come Dec. 23rd. I'm very excited to be able to go back to my California roots, see the folks and grandfolks and maybe an old friend or two. It may also be nice to get away from this frigid weather for a week! Only, I really dread flying during the frenzied holiday travel season but I think I will handle it fine, especially since Danny will be coming with me.<br /><br />Tonight Danny and I and our friends Kelly and Clay will be going to a local Shamanic Journey gathering where they will be using the traditional rapid eagle drum beat and guided meditation( not medication- typo sorry) to loose one another into journeys into the spirit realm. Last time Danny and I did it we were really blown away and had much to think upon.
